Widder, SASS #59054 Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Is all Salmon...'pink'. Seems like every piece I've ever seen is pink, so why is it advertised as 'pink salmon'? Is their any other color of salmon? ..........Widder Quote
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 It varies depending on diet (farm-raised or wild caught) & by species. Search "Salmon Color Guide" by U.S. Foods. 1 4 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Also doesn't help that a fair bit of it is dyed. 2 1 Quote
Yul Lose Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Pre Covid I went up to fish for salmon and halibut and other fish in Alaska every summer for a number of years. Occasionally someone would catch an “ivory” king salmon, instead of pink meat the meat was more halibut like in color. Whoever caught that “ivory” king salmon was offered a lot of money for it as the white meat is a very valuable item in Japan. I guess the fish was filleted as soon as they got it back to the landing and it was in the next float plane out to Juneau and on a jet to Japan right after that. ”Ivory” King Salmon. 1 4 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 Had it for lunch, Costco, Natural, Bagel and cream cheese - got a good eye for color. Dyed? Why bother. 1 Quote

Widder, SASS #59054 Posted November 24, 2025 Author Posted November 24, 2025 Thanks for all the replies. It was a serious question. One of my favorite dishes here in E.TN when I go out to eat is 'Bourbon 'glazed' Salmon and shrimp'. And the salmon is always pinkish........ and super good and tasty. Thanks again. ..........Widder 1 Quote

Colorado Coffinmaker Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 THE MOST INCREADABLE Salmon I ever tasted was on a shore excursion while on an Alaska Cruse. Visited a place the specialized in Grilled Salmon. The Salmon was just too delicious for words. 2 1 Quote

Alpo Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 (edited) It's funny. To the best of my remembrance, the only times I have ever eaten salmon was salmon croquettes about every other Friday in 7th and 8th grade. Because, you know, you can't eat meat on Friday. As an aside, 12 years of public school in six different schools in three different towns. I've met two Catholics that I'm aware were catholic. But just in case they wouldn't serve meat on Friday. I was at a seafood restaurant one time and decided I would order the salmon fillet. I did and the waitress suggested I should change my order. People had been complaining and sending it back all evening, because it was full of bones. So I got shrimp. Edited November 25, 2025 by Alpo can't even blame otto for this one - my fault Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted November 26, 2025 Posted November 26, 2025 At our parish there used to be a commercial fisherman out of Bodega Bay. He'd often bring in fresh salmon for the Sunday lunch. It always was about this color " 2 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Fresh salmon is OK, but I think it's overrated. I've never been able to make anything i like using canned salmon. I've tried at least a dozen versions of salmon patties, none were to my taste. I've tried casseroles, salads, etc. I just can't work with it. Quote
