Lawdog Dago Dom Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 Walther Suspends Production of the PPK®, PPK/S®, and PP® Legacy Products
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 At one time or another I have owned a PP, a PPK/S, and three PPKs. All were .380 cal and all were marvelous guns.....but the wife and kids needed to eat and sometimes we were just plain poor.
Texas Lizard Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 What will James do now.... Texas Lizard

LW Leather Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 I was contemplating getting one in .22 LR because it makes a great suppressor host, or so I've heard. I'm afraid this will drive prices up. Guess I'll just get a Ruger Wrangler and forget the suppressor and Walther
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 "As part of Walther’s long-term product vision, the PPK®, PPK/S®, and PP® will now enter a multi-year reengineering and modernization program. This initiative aims to enhance performance, integrate advanced manufacturing technologies, and elevate the user experience—all while preserving the iconic look, feel, and spirit that have defined these pistols for generations." That means that when they release new versions, they'll probably made of plastic and striker fired.
Chantry Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 A major leap forward when first released, but there are better options now. Flaws: Bad trigger, slide cutting into the web of your hand for some people (me), all metal, so expensive and time consuming to make, recoil of a blow back pistol may be uncomfortable for some people. You can get 9x19 in the same size gun that kicks less than the .380. Pluses: Size and accuracy

They already went there with the PPQ and the PPX*. *Yes, the PPX is technically hammer fired, but it's certainly not a hammer you can get your thumb on.
Rye Miles #13621 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 I had one a long time ago for a very short time. I just didn’t like it. Seemed to bite my hand, very uncomfortable! No thanks never liked that gun.
Black Angus McPherson Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 At one time I thought I really wanted one. Then I had the opportunity to actually shoot a couple of them and they both had the worst trigger pulls I've ever experienced on a firearm. If it were only one I could put it off to just poor luck. But with both of them having the same horrendous trigger pull I figured I'd save my money for something better. Angus
Chantry Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 The Russian Makarov, which was an improved Walther PP is a better gun. Better trigger, both DA & SA, fewer parts and no slide bite.
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 If you want to go really cheap, Bersas are a cheap clone of them. Not great, but not bad for the price. I probably wouldn't carry one as my EDC, but as a range gun it'd be okay. Of course I wouldn't carry a Walther as my EDC either, there are many 9mms that are smaller and lighter.

When S&W started making them for U.S. sales, they addressed that problem. Notice the longer tail on the second picture.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 I had one, but sold it due to my inability to hit the broadside of a barn with it. While I was inside the barn.
Sarge Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Carried a PPK/S for many years. Wonderful little gun.

Prior to the Canadian freeze on the legal registration and transfer of handguns, I managed to sell my Artillery Model Luger; my Red 9 "Broomhandle" and a plastic grip P-38, similar to the one bottom right, along with a Colt Officer's Model Match, a Browning Hi-Power and a Browning Medalist. I used to laugh years ago, when a friend stated: "Registration will Lead to Confiscation!" I'm not laughing anymore.

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Have absolutely no use for it but I picked up this PPK SD several months ago. Thought it would be interesting to have a surpresed PPK. The Big Beautiful Bill eliminated the $200.00 fee on surpressesors so I decided to wait until 2026 to look for a surpressor. I have not even fired this thing yet.

Capt. James H. Callahan Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 When I was in college in Austin I found a French made PPK .32. Perfect 007 gun. Problem was it was a jamomatic. Years later when I got my carry license I traded it off. Didn't trust my life to it. Been carrying Glocks since then. They go BANG every time. JHC
Kid Rich Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 I have 3 of the PPK/s pistols. All of them are accurate. A 22, 32 and 380/9mm. Really nice pistols. Really sorry they are not making them any longer. kR

To me, a PPK with suppressor is the ultimate Bond movie gun.
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted November 25, 2025 Posted November 25, 2025 Another case of "Wait and See." If memory serves (sometimes it doesn't! -- but here goes anyway!) an attempt was made to redesign the internals to improve that dreadfully heavy DA pull, which (again, memory) was a rather dismal failure. Now I get to "Wait and See" if they bring out this venerable profile, this recognizable market icon, this proven seller, with internal changes or maybe a lighter frame. Never had one in .380, but a pair in .22 rimfire and a surplused-out German police pistol in .32, were all dead nuts reliable, more accurate than my aging eyes, and of course there's the entire James Bond thing. So ... wait and see what they do, or if they do anything!
