Captain Bill,

Don't need any more Frontier Cartridge shooters. I'd be happy to come in 4th out of 3 shooters.

We have 62 shooters.  I'm going to order buckles shortly, I've already picked them out, I'm just waiting to see what the last 2-3 categories are going to be.  The sign up deadline is April 1st.

How many shooters are we up to now, and do you have a category list yet?

We are at 64 shooters and will be taking applications until April 1st.  The goal is to meet or exceed the 77 we had last year.

I've already ordered buckles.  Here's what we have.

Overall Man

Overall Lady

Cowboy

Cowgirl

Senior

Lady Wrangler

Elder Statesman

Young Gun

Duelist

Gunfighter

Outlaw

Lady Gunfighter

Frontier Cartridge

Classic Cowboy

Frontiersman

I can make a supplemental order for additional buckles if I get the entries to justify it.  The closest category to filling right now is Silver Senior.

I have a Frontiersman Gunfighter, a Lady Senior, Lady 49er, Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter, Lady Duelist, Wrangler and 49er that need folks to join them so they can have their category.  If that doesn't happen the Ladies will drop into Lady Wrangler, the men will drop into Cowboy and the FCGF and FGF will drop into Gunfighter.

Registration closes April 1st!  We're at 68 shooters.

Here are our final categories:

Young Gun

Cowboy

Senior

Elder Statesman

Gunfighter

Duelist
Outlaw

Classic Cowboy

Frontiersman

Frontier Cartridge

Cowgirl

Lady Wrangler

Lady Senior

Lady Gunfighter

I've ordered all the buckles.  The Lady Senior buckle was a late addition and may not be here by Tennessee State.

There are several people who are going to get collapsed into different categories.  If it's age based, I'm going to drop folks down to the next age category they are eligible for, so for example I have someone getting dropped from Cattle Baron to Elder Statesman.

I have some folks with options.  If you're a Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter you can either choose Frontier Cartridge, or Gunfighter.  The same for Frontiersman Gunfighter.

I've downloaded the Last Stand results and built the spreadsheet.  Once I have all the registrations in I'll post the rankings for the Last Stand, both here and at the Mag 7 website.

IE Frontiersman gunfighter, I'd do it, but it's not a recognized category at any state match. You would have to shoot a gunfighter category with black, and cap & ball. It is doable, just not practical if you want to win a state match too. Maybe next year if you can get the state matches to offer it, but it's not a SASS category. Can we get SASS on board? 😁

@Preacherman

You ain’t wrong about these here categories at the MAG Seven shoots, partner. Truth be told, we’re ridin’ mighty close to the edge when we start dreamin’ up newfangled categories that ain’t got a prayer of bein’ recognized come State Match time. No sense saddlin’ up a horse we ain’t allowed to ride when the big show rolls into town.  And I'm probably the reason Capt Bill listed the Frontier Gunfighter !?!

Now, out here in the black powder territory, we’ve always been a breed apart—trailblazers, smoke-makers, and lovers of a good boom and cloud. It’s in our nature to wander off the marked trail and carve out a little frontier of our own. And I’ll tell ya straight—I’ve taken a real shine to GUNFIGHTER. There’s somethin’ about runnin’ both irons that just clicks in my head. The stage unfolds cleaner, smoother… none of that countin’ to five, switchin’ back and forth business that tangles my thoughts like a lariat in a dust storm. And don’t even get me started on that 5-and-5 rifle business—it’s enough to make a fella miss a barn at ten paces.

Then there’s Cap-n-Ball… now that’s a whole different beast. Fine and dandy in its own right, but when you line it up against the other black powder categories, it can feel like you’re bringin’ a knife to a gunfight. It’s a labor of love, no doubt—but it’ll test your grit, your patience, and your reloadin’ fingers all at once.

So for most of us, FRONTIERSMAN is where we hang our hats—our home on the range. That is, ‘cept when some club throws a wild, woolly match where the rules loosen up and the smoke really starts to roll. Then all bets are off, and we let ‘er rip just for the pure joy of it.

I reckon I’m lookin’ forward to ridin’ the trail with all my FRONTIERSMAN brethren this season. Plenty of smoke, good company, and the sweet sound of steel ringin’ in the distance—now that’s the kind of music that calls a cowboy home.

See y’all on the firing line. 🤠

Bill,    You can go ahead and add Prairie Dog Kid, for Young Gun.    He's going to be able to make it to Georgia and Tennessee. I'll send out the application.

I'm a gunfighter at heart, my passion! You're right, it's the best, and Frontiersman? I struggle. The Florida international black powder championship of years gone by ALWAYS had Frontiersman gunfighter and I always shot it! The best of both. I wish that it could be managed. 😁

Just to be clear, I’ll support Frontiersman Gunfighter, or any other combination that at least 4-5 people sign up for.

In the Magnificent 7 we have the luxury of focusing on how you shot the match over the category you signed up for in a match.

So, if you sign up as a Gunfighter, and you’re using cap and ball, you can be a Frontiersman Gunfighter (next year).

🤔 I know you would consider it. We went through this last year too. However, I like to have a shot at winning in a state match too, so I probably wouldn't do it. Good shootin'!!

I guess the scoring has me confused. In years past Christian would have 1 point, whereas Fast Eddie would have 6.
