My neighbor has Christmas decorations out, so it can't be to early to be planning for spring shooting.

The 2025 Magnificent 7 saw our highest participation in the three years it's been running with 77 people signing up.  We gave out more buckles than ever before and gave away some great door prizes generously donated by our sponsors: Bullets by Scarlett, Page Custom Knives, Outlaw Bullets, and Buffalo's Wild West.  This year we have a new sponsor in "Diamond Jake" Rewa!

We're extremely grateful to SASS, and all seven state clubs who sponsored us and look forward to their sponsorship in 2026.

The rules are the same in 2026.  We should have the same 7 matches sponsoring us again.  I need to confirm a couple.  The South Carolina Championship will be hosted by the Geechee Gunfighters in 2026. Thank you Doc Kemm for continuing with us.

My goal for 2026 year is to hit 100 participants.  If you participated in the past and want to join us again we're grateful.  If you haven't done the Magnificent 7 we hope you'll consider it this year.  The price is still $20 and it's still non-profit.  All entrance fees go towards Molly buckles and/or door prizes. The deadline to sign up will be the opening of The Last Stand, our kick off match.

Some categories are pretty much locked in because we know we'll get the minimum needed (4).  Other categories will be honored based on whether we get the minimum number of participants.  Last year quite a few people were interested in Classic Cowboy and Frontiersman, so they recruited enough competitors and we added those categories.

I encourage anyone who is interested to recruit a few more people and we'll honor whatever category you're interested in.

Here's our current list of participants (72) and their requested categories:

Rank Points for best three matches.  We will use overall rank points for Mag 7 participants only.  We will not rank within a match by category or include non Mag 7 participants in ranking.  Lowest total overall rank points for each Mag 7 category is the winner.

Total time for best three matches will be the tiebreaker if needed.

We will automatically drop the highest points for any matches attended beyond three, so more matches attended equates to a better chance of winning a buckle
To be eligible for awards based on shooting style/propellent all matches must be shot in the same shooting style/propellent. Age designations within shooting style/propellent do not have to be consistent.

Our kickoff is Florida State,  and we will wrap up with awards and prizes at Tennessee State.

The entry fee is $20

Awards are first and second place only!

That's an ongoing discussion.  I didn't plan to try to make it happen for 2026.  Some folks have offered opinions publicly and others privately.  There's no consensus feedback yet, but right now I think public opinion is split pretty evenly between leaving things alone and trying to add NC State (assuming they want to be added).  Adding the Regional is coming in a distant third as a lot of folks like wrapping up at TN State.

Feedback is welcome for sure, whether here or privately.

Max Payne & Ophelia Payne will be in for sure. We just have to get signed up & give you money. Thanks for doing this. I believe it has driven much extra participation in the state matches, as I've have heard several cow-people say this caused them to shoot matches they may have missed otherwise.

Since Mississippi has now been allocated to the Southern Region, is it still included in the Magnificent Seven for 2026?Screenshot_20251231_142145_Chrome.thumb.jpg.b55225e39aa0904bf0d692c9ac9ee3f1.jpg

My guess would be nothing changes since the Mag7 is a competition overlayed to a region. I see no reason to change the 7. The Mag7 was formed due to the sequence of Southern states state matches.

Where did this map come from and why isn’t it officially posted on the sass wire?

It was just included in the SASS Member Bulletin that was just mailed out. We are just faster. 😁

And they moved Mississippi to the “Southern” regionl! They’re now grouped with Louisiana, Texas, and parts of Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

I believe the M7 was done to help promote the State Matches.

What is the "All Around Cowboy" event/catagory?

IIRC you have to shoot one match gunfighter, one duelist and one two handed.

From the website:

This year we will bring back ‘All Around Cowboy’. Competitors for AAC must shoot three State matches using three different shooting styles. The options are: Traditional, Duelist, Gunfighter and Outlaw. Pick three of the four.

You may participate in your category of choice AND ‘All Around Cowboy’ so long as you meet the minimum requirements for both categories.

I love this idea, I just usually don't get to 3 of the matches on the list.

You’re my target market! Folks who typically shoot one or two state matches but might be willing to shoot three (or more). I’m sure you’ll shoot Fl State, probably GA State, all you need is one more…

Applications are starting to pick up.  We're at 34 shooters and aiming to exceed last year's 77.  The sign up deadline this year is April 1st.  Don't be foolish.  Sign up before then!!

Cap,

April 1st? I thought  that registration closed once The Last Stand started. Doesn't matter to me as the application went out Monday.

What is Outlaw?

Pistols -- one handed. Duelist, double duelist, or gunfighter only.

Pistols and shotgun shot below the chest, with elbows bent, no aiming down the sights. Think "shooting from the hip."

According to the SE regional website https://www.northalabamaregulators.com/alabamastatechampionships , rifles can be shouldered and aimed down the sights.

Howdy Pard!  Yeah, typically we've cut it off at the beginning of FL State, but the last two years that didn't happen until April.  Now it's Mid March.  I don't want folks to get caught by surprise, so I figured we would give them until April 1st.

We're up to 45!!

No sir.  Still the same 7 states, though South Carolina State is now Doc Kemm and crew with the Rampage.  I know everyone appreciates the great job @Slippery Stew and his cowboys did for the last several years.  I hope you'll join us!

I'm going to give this a bump.  We have 45 shooters, apps are coming in pretty regularly.  Cowboy, Cowgirl, Senior, Elder Statesman, Frontiersman and Classic Cowboy have four or more already.  Duelist, Silver Senior and Frontier Cartridge are headed that way.   I'm wondering where all the Gunfighters and Outlaws are?

We're up to 53 shooters with several regulars I haven't heard from yet.  Right now the for sure categories are:

Cowboy, Cowgirl, Senior, Classic Cowboy, Frontiersman, Elder Statesman, Young Gun.

We need a few more Duelists, Gunfighter's, Frontier Cartridge, Ladies Senior, Ladies Duelist and Silver Senior.

The sign up deadline is April 1st, but I plan to order buckles next week, so let me know!
