I was wondering about grip tape on the butt of a 73. Don't really want a full leather cover. It would be cut out and stuck to the metal crescent back only. Legal?

Or even gluing a strip of leather on?

You can remove the butt plate and wrap it with “roughout” leather. Then just screw the butt plate back onto the stock.

It works really well and won’t come unstuck at an inopportune moment!!

Contemporary rubber grips, modern target grips, grip tape, and the like are not allowed.

A piece of leather or similar natural material may be attached to the butt-plate or butt-stock.
