Chelsea Kid, #47400 Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Hello the fire, I was looking at an email from Midsouth Shooters Supply which I have purchased items from in the past. They advertised sale on primers with no hazemat fee. I started looking and they have a number of different brands, but one caught my eye, Unis Ginex. 5000 for $250. I question things when they seem to be too good to be true so I looked them up at a couple of places. Shooters Forum had a number of posts. The only comment to the negative was they were a little hard to seat, especially in .223 brass. In .38's heavily used they were fine. My question to the gang is, has anyone in the Cowboy world used them? Thanks in advance. Chelsea Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Yes I have them and I only use them in my pistols even though they go off in my rifles. But out of caution I limit them to my pistols. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Have gotten mostly positive reports on them. They say that they are in between Winchester and CCI in hardness, but are apparently reliable. I have been using Magtech primers lately with excellent results. Midsouth is a great outfit to deal with. For me, they’re just a few minutes away, so I don’t have to deal with hazmat or shipping, but they still offer me a rewards program and email updates. Quote
Tell Sackett SASS 18436 Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 Don’t use them if you have lightened hammer springs!!! Not 100% reliable for those. I know firsthand! 1 Quote
Dusty Driver Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 I have loaded several thousand of these primers. I find them very reliable and usually a fair bit cheaper then other primers. HOWEVER, I only use them for 9mm and 45acp. They are too hard for my light spring cowboy guns. (Federal only for cowboy). 3 Quote
Imis Twohofon,SASS # 46646 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 I have used a couple of thousand in factory sprung pistols and rifles with no FTF. I like MidSouth also. Imis Quote
Doc Nelson #19958 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 In light loads they are a bit under powered. I was getting some inconsistant results. Doc Nelson Quote
Nickle Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 Shot thousands of them because all I could buy. On 1873 I had to increase hammer tension a bit but spring is way lighter than original. In 44 Russian which has a thinner rim I had to buy a rcbs shell holder to fit the cartridge a bit better than the lee because primers seat hard enough to deform rim with the lee. Lee uses same shell holder for 45 colt through to 44-40. Rcbs has a shell holder specifically for 44 mag/ Russian. Now that federal and cci are becoming available at better than covid era prices I'm buying them instead . Quote
Longfoot Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 During the great primer shortage, they ran fine in my factory spring NMV's and Longhunter light hammer springed Marlin 94 with +1 washer. Quote
Bullett Sass 19707 Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 I used 1000 in 9mm cases could not wait till they were gone. Very difficult to seat. The 9mm i was using was unaltered. Bullett Quote

I broke one of my Lee bench primers trying to seat them. They were also very hard to seat using a single stage press. I would never buy them again. Quote

And I had the same reaction when I saw the prices the first time I ordered them. 1 Quote
Renegade Roper Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 He tried them in 3 of our rifles & very inconsistent in all 3. Didnt bother to try them in the pistols. Roper & Schwaby Quote
