the one knife

I have a huge collection of knives (over 200) thanks to my dad and granddad. I have a tremendous gambit of everything from the peanut and watermelon knife to the Grohmann and the simple stamped Mercator to the coveted Benchmades and Kershaws to many solengin blades and of course the Case Brand and the famous Opinel and USA made Buck knives. and Gerber.

German made Bokers are also a favorite of mine as are the Finnish Marttiini's and Hen and Roosters.

I will not try to separate pocket knives from hunting, traditionals, skining and fighting knives but down to one conclusive knife brand but the one single knife all time for me is the Victorinox Explorer!

And yes, I have used it to dress out quail, and used the magnifyer to start a campfire and to open my favorite bottle of Cab Sav on the open prairie!

And don't buy a Victorinox without the scissor option! It comes in so handy!

Plus the leather sheath has a Maglite flashlight holder!

We all have different lifestyles and different needs and uses for knives. What is your one knife?

As you, I have bunches of knives which I have accumulated over the years.  Some are Damascus, Buffalo Bone Handles, every Buck Knife made, but my favorite is the one my daughter bought me while she was in Switzerland.  It is the Victorinox with the scissor option and in a leather sheath.  I had one when I was a Boy Scout and I still have it after some 60 plus years.

No knife collection is complete without a Swiss Army knife! Mine stays in the console of my truck. My lifestyle tends to have me using a knife to open packages mostly so I carry a Spyderco PM2.

I prefer the Swiss Army knife with the blade lock-back feature.

I have carried one either on my person or in the truck for over 50 years .

Mine too! She bought it on a high school trip over 20 years ago. I just went and took the Buck out of my pocket and put hers in, thanks for the reminder.

I wear a pouch on my belt, ostensibly a phone holder while carrying an ersatz IFK, and in that is my Leatherman. Not a new one, not an updated one, nothing fancy, just a Leatherman from 20+ years ago, works great, does everything I ask it to do. I wear that pouch every single day of the year that I am not at work.

Off duty I also carry a favorite, a Benchmade Resistor a guy gave me years ago, CZ marked. I no longer have this pistol, but I certainly have the knife!

I have one fixed blade, I don't remember what it is or even WHERE it is right now, always have used lockbacks, but I think I would like to buy a custom fixed blade for every day carry someday.

id still have that pistol too ............i keep my leathermans on my gun carts as we need tools sometimes

The Swiss Army Explorer has been in my camping kitchen for many years.  It's a very handy knife to have.  When I worked around some kind souls in an office, I carried another Swiss Army knife that just had a small blade, a scissors, and a toothpick it was very small but did not scare the office workers.  For the last couple of years, I have been carrying an out the front knife.  I like it because I can close it with one hand.  Almost all of my knifes open one handed now, but most take two hands to close which is usually inconvenient. My grandmother gave me my first knife when I was about 5 years old.  She said, "a gentleman always carries a knife".  I have rarely been without one since.  I use my knife almost every day for something.

Kershaw 1660ST.  Buck 110 w/ Goodyear laser engraved on the scales..  Blackjack #7 w/stag handle.  The Kershaw because I carry it every day... The Buck because it was a gift from someone who got me a ride on the Goodyear Blimp...  The pilot let my son sit in the co-pilot's seat, but more importantly, gave my son one of their ball caps.  The Blackjack because it's so similar to what I was trained with.  And looks cool on the gunbelt.

If I didn't have an ex-wife who loved to spend my money, I'd still have it and whole bunch of others like it still, too.

I don't have any tools on my guncart, still getting things setup.

i can relate to that - twice , im not faulting you , i knew there was a good reason - could have been medicine for a child , i understand , just sayin that was a nice pistol , hope you get to replace it one day - ive replaced most everything after i turned 50 and by the time i was 60 was buying fun added items , you do have some really nice cowboy guns so in some ways you have moved on

i dont carry a lot on my guncart - im a minimalist in that area , i do have a cleaning/clearing rod , brass picking tools and an umbrella - never know what might come up

Umbrella, good idea, could also use it in a stage as a prop... :D

Yes, I'd love to have one of my PCRs back, but I have enough guns to keep me occupied for quite a while now, and that, as always, is a very good thing. ;)

Now, back to knives, the only knives I've really spent any serious money on is my Henckels kitchen knives, one at a time. :)

I've seen some seriously nice custom knives I'd like to buy some day, but one that catches my eye is the "screwknife" from Mernickle - is it really that useful?

Talk about "minimalist"...😁

i understand spending money on fine cutlery for your kitchen , i have a couple friends and a wife that love their kitchens ,

i think my "favorite" knife of all time is the kershaw folder that was used in an advertisement for one of my favorite rifles - it was given to me by my best friend as a birthday gift , i carry it in my pocket of my 'cleaned up' pants - my dress up knife

he also gave me a larger newer version that is a bit more rugged - thats on my work clothes ,

i do have my FILs K-bar from his tours in VN that means a lot to me

I too carry a small Swiss Army knife.  I use it to trim broken nails and open packages, though I have lightly tightened loose screws on firearms before taking them where I have a set of gunsmithing screwdrivers to properly tighten the screw.  What annoys me is that some museums and entertainment venues ban my tiny 1-inch knife blade as a security threat.  I think they are overreacting.

I've been pocket carrying one of my multi-tools the last few days. This one has  pocket clip
