Local news station ran an article about Gen Z'ers all puffed and proud of themselves because they invented (THEY invented!?) the Analog Bag.
A multi pocket grip they can carry stuff in ... one interviewee was all proud of herself and said she has things like crossword puzzles and magazines, a book, things she can use to disconnect from the electronic device normally welded to her hand.

The article absolutely gushed over this marvel of new invention and of course offered exemplars for sale.

I shook my head and remembered the carpet bags our grade school teachers used, the embroidered canvas warbag my Grandma packed around ...

Analog bags?
 Really?

If they advertise it as "tactical" they will sell out overnight.

The name sounds weird, but I applaud their efforts. They’re trying to get people to stop staring at their phones and they’re showing them options that they can use to help with that.

They mostly look like the canvas "grocery" bags people in places that outlawed plastic bags carry.

If I ever find myself with some free time, I'd like to get some light canvas (painter's drop cloth?) and make some "grocery" bags.  And stencil an abstract of THIS guy on the things!

I got something similar that had belonged to  an uncle.  It was embroidered with  flowery designs on  a light tan soft canvas body.  it had a leather handle and a half dozen pockets all over the inside.

He called it a carpet bag but it wasn't quite that size.  More like a briefcase.

He was a trucker and carried road maps in it.

Well... it looks like I better put my plan into action.  Just heard on the news a "reminder" that as of 01 January 2026 ALL plastic grocery bags will be banned from california stores (but you can bring your own).  Paper bags will be available - maybe - for a dime apiece.  Folks enrolled in food assistance programs will get theirs free.  dizzy

Free bags have been banned for some time statewide, longer in some communities.  I'll never forget the first time I encountered this - I went into a supermarket in Cayucas, california, with Ms Helen Brimstone sometime back in the 'teens.  Went through the "self check" lane, had a major hassle with the supervising clerk when the machine tried to charge $12.00 for 1 1/2 lbs of mushrooms at $1.99 a pound.  The gal actually argued with me!  But I prevailed.  However, when all paid for, I looked for a bag.  No bags.  So I asked, and was quite startled when this same clerk literally sneered at the out-of-towner (me!) and bragged, "WE are a BAG FREE city!  You have to provide your OWN!"

Oh, swell.  No bags - not even to buy.  I literally took off my light jacket and made up a "bindle" of groceries, just to get back to the car.  *Grump!*

Yup... gotta make me up some "Brown Bags."  weary

A very long time ago, just post WWII, I can recall my Great Aunt shopping the neighborhood stores (no supermarket!) with a mesh bag, apparently strong and large in use, that would fit in her coat pocket empty.  I would suppose something similar still exists.

One more reason....as if I needed one....to never set foot in California again for ANY reason.  Unfortunately, some that BS garbage is leaking across the border, so far mostly in the Greater Phoenix Mega-Hive.

WWWwwwweeeeeeelllllllllllllllll, if you're interested, I have just the machine to put whatever design your heart desires on the outside of it.  Embroidered or printed.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can do.

@Forty Rod SASS 3935

We're trying to stem the tide & stay as red as we can...unfortunately we are going to have to soon circle the wagons around Ben Avery and Cowtown as the spreading cancer of liberal mindlessness encroachs on our open areas...Turn the wall at Yuma and build along the river until you get to Nevada....🤔

Kris made me a couple, last year, for my daughter.

She is Hazel Honeybee, and she was born in the Year of the Tiger.

Because my gal is going to want to know when I show her this, what machine do you use? She does embroidery also on a Brother machine.

The work you did for Alpo is outstanding!

My current machine is a Janome Continental M-17.  It's about 3 years old and I have a few hundred hours on it, mostly embroidery work. With my crazy job, this is the only thing that keeps me sane.

Thank you all for the kind words.  I really appreciate it.  My dream once I retire is to do crafting, quilting and embroidery work and donate the items to veterans and folks in need, like quilts for people in nursing homes.  I may even sell some on the side.

I just bought this for my birthday, Cricut Maker 4.  My thought is to combine printed t-shirts, bags etc. with embroidery to make multidimensional objects.

(I can't find it now but I saw a beautiful reindeer printed on a t-shirt with an embroidered bow around it's neck.)

Thank you again!!!  🥰

You're making my gal drool with the Janome Continential machine and the Cricut Maker 4. She has Brother machine with a 4" X 4" hoop and a Cricut Maker 1. She wants to get one with a bigger hoop. What size hoop is the Janome? Her favorite embroidery site is Cute Things By Rebecca.

She says to tell you that if you need any info on SVG files for the Cricut and/or embroidery sites to give me a PM with a phone number and she'll give you a call.

For the record - I have no idea what any of this means, but she does.

It came with 5 hoops.  The largest hoop is 11 x 17.  That allows me to do things like this:

My suggestion is contact a dealer and see if you can find a demo model or a good factory refurbished one.  The prices have come down a little since I purchased mine, but not appreciably.

I will certainly take her up on the offer of the SVG files.  Please thank her for me.

Interesting, I have been getting analog bags from a lot of the SASS annual matches for over 7 years. LOL
