Alpo Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 I was watching a short the other day and Nimoy was explaining the Vulcan neck pinch. He said that in one of the early shows Spock was supposed to sneak up behind the bad guy and slug him with the butt of his phaser. And he tells Roddenberry that this is a new species of people, and we really don't know anything about them. That they might have all kinds of strange abilities that normal humans can't do. And he just wanted to pinch the guard at the junction of his neck and his shoulder and that would drop him. And Roddenberry liked it. So that's why Spock could do it. But I don't recall ever seeing any other Vulcan do that. Do y'all? Maybe that's something only he could do - because of his unique Vulcan/humaness. Are there any other crossbreeds in the Star Trek universe? 1 Quote

I think that Tuvok might have done it on Voyager, but I'm not sure. And I'm pretty sure that I've seen other Vulcans do it, though I couldn't say where. As for crossbreeds, Troi was half Betazoid half Human. Quote
Cypress Sun Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 When I was a kid, I tried many multiple times to replicate it.....never worked. Guess you just got to be a half-breed Vulcan. 1 Quote
Alpo Posted November 10, 2025 Author Posted November 10, 2025 I recall one episode where Spock pinched somebody, and as they're going past the unconscious man Kirk says, "I really wish you could teach me that", and Spock replies, "I have tried many times Captain". You know, I can't really decide which is more annoying. When I use a contraction and otto uncontracts it and makes it be two words, or when I use two words and he makes it a contraction. I don't believe Spock used contractions. Like Ziva. Tony used to give her grief all the time because she didn't use contractions. And when I typed that line with Kirk and Spock talking about the pinch, I typed I HAVE TRIED, and otto changed it to I'VE TRIED. Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Other Vulcans include T'Pol, Tuvok, Sakonna, and Selek. Various animated series - T'lyn and Maj'el Non-Vulcans that used it successfully - Capt James T. Kirk, Data, Capt Picard, Admiral Michael Burnham, La'An Noonien-Singh, Captain Jonathan Archer, Odo, and Seven of Nine. Attempted to use without success. Dr. McKoy and Nurse Chapel. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Vulcan_neck_pinch Quote

I always thought that it had to do with Vulcan's being stronger than humans. Quote

Dr. McKoy At the end of the second movie - Kahn - Spock pinches McCoy, and then mind melds with him as he's lying there unconscious, then goes into the radiation chamber and gets killed. At the beginning of the third movie - Search - McCoy is attempting to do something and a security guard is not going to let him. So he reaches out and pinches the guy's shoulder. And the guard just kind of looks puzzled at his hand, and McCoy pinches him a couple or three more times, saying, "why isn't this working!?" 2 Quote
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Dont forget the Vulcan Death Grip... used to great affect to fool the pretty Romulan commander into thinking Kirk was dead by Spock's hand. 1 Quote
Smokin Gator SASS #29736 Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 My 5th grade teacher had a similar pinch move. About Granny's size on the Beverly Hillbillies. But it involved grabbing the ear. She could take anyone to the office with that grip. 2 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 T’Pol can pinch me anytime! 2 Quote
