When it comes to manners, I must defer to my dear skinny Mama, rest her soul, she who did her best to beat some manners into me --

*hak-kaff!*

*har-rumph*

I mean she worked hard to teach me good manners.

Insert innocent expression here.

I know, I know, seventy years in and that Innocent Expression hasn't worked, not even once, but I keep trying!

Now about that matter of protocol:

I have a Weather Alert radio and it just sang that aggravating irritating Yodel Dog at me and allowed as we have a Winter Weather Watch in effect.

Something about it's supposed to snow for 23 hours, Sunday into Monday.

Times like this make me appreciate even more the fact that I'm retired!

I am unclear on this First Weather Alert of the Oncoming Snow Season, though:

Is this where I'm supposed to jump in the Jeep and drive just hell-a-tearin' to Wal-Mart, where I gather up as many loaves of bread in both arms and as many jugs of milk as I can carry in both hands, then run around in circles, crying hysterically?

Or is this where I'm just supposed to go to Wal-Mart and stand around (maybe that's for tornado alerts, I forget!)

My baby sis said as long as I've got a couple cans of soup in the cupboard, I'm good, so very likely I'll let my naturally lazy nature take over.

Running around in circles whole holding all that bread and milk sounds too much like work anyway.

Been slowly stocking the pantry, a bit at a time, for a couple of months now!  Soups, canned beans, pie fillings, baking goods, and crackers/cereal/pasta type dry goods all laid bye! We’re stocked on beverages and breads.

It’s been mentioned that we MIGHT get a sprinkle of snow or a few flurries tomorrow night so, some folks I’m sure, will be in panic mode in the next few hours!

We try to keep the panty and freezer stocked*, and at least 20 gal of petrol for the generator so we don't get caught with our overalls around our brogans.

* With real food.  Milk sammiches ain't much punkin'.

Just a question of preparation - 2 weeks in, we wouldn't run out of anything except beer, and there are other options in stock.  They plow the roads well out here, and we have the means to plow / dig out to the road.  After that, 4wd on the truck. Comes down to what is important to you.

Made a grocery run today. Some onions, bell peppers in several colors, celery, and pecan halves just because I'm out. Also a few bottles of wine just because I can see the back of that cabinet.

I'm planning to take a risk in the first winter event Monday. Today, I took 3# of beef stew meat out of the freezer to thaw in the fridge, gonna make a chili. The risk? If the power fails, my stove and oven will not work. Most of the house will stay running as I have a generator on natural gas. Do have a propane camp stove as backup, would be roughing it then.

I'm not sure we will get anything other than cold or if any snow will stick if it comes (east Tennessee), but can easily go a week with the biggest problem being "cabin fever." I even have 6 quarts of shelf-stable milk. And some bread and tortillas stashed in the freezer.

Key point is I have no intention of going out in this event as all the idiots will need some time to learn how to drive again.

My kids are always worried about me having enough food, but when they drop in and check the fridges, cupboards and pantry they are always amazed that I'M NOT PREPARED TO STARVE.....OR EVEN MISS MEAL.

I might run out of some perishables (milk, some fresh veggies, etc.) if to disaster goes on long enough.  I'm more likely to run out of something stupid like face tissues or paper towels.

We live in the country...not far from town...but too far to walk. We usually have enough food on hand for at least a couple of weeks...or more

Dieting for a couple of days prolly wouldn't hurt any of us!  Not to worry.

It is now 04:31 AM, and the current outside temp is 56 degrees Fahrenheit. We have started our "mildly cool" season.

If there is snow in the forecast you need to be prepared to make sacrificial french toast to appease the snow makers.

Or melt it off your drive way or something so bread milk AND eggs.

Well ... if I'm gonna make that panicked Wal-Mart Buy Out the Store Panic Run ... I'd best do it while the pavement is still dry.

Once it starts to snow, these flat land Yankees have absolutely forgotten how to drive in the stuff.

I don't know if snowflakes act like falling filters and gather up Stupid Inducing Chemicals on their way down, which then infect the susceptible, but it sure seems like it!

Unless something serious occurs, I reckon I'll politely turn into a hermit for the Duration!

Gosh.  While I miss the "white stuff" at times, I'll be really happy when the temps get below 75.  Today the high is 85, tomorrow 71 and Tuesday 61.  Then it starts to climb again.....  😢

I got out some really fabulous Italian sausage to make spaghetti sauce for supper! Fresh onions and garlic, chopped bell pepper, abundant seasonings, and I might chop some pepperoni and capocola to go in too!

It’ll take most of the day for the sauce to simmer down and probably twenty minutes for it to disappear this evening!!

Nothin’ like a good home cooked dinner on a cold and blustery night!!

Your sauce sounds a lot like mine. Garlic, Italian Seasoning, and Oregano. Hot Italian Sausage, pepperoni, and blanched green bell peppers. 😋

I love when someone uses a term I've never heard, do I do a search on it and in the explanation they use the term I've never heard.

Blackwater is going to put some capocola in his spaghetti sauce.

Never heard of that. Neither has duck duck Go, but they have heard of capocollo - 2 Ls and an O instead of one L and an A. I go with that on the assumption that he misspelled it.

They say that that is a salume made from pig neck.

It's a what?

So now I had to look up salume.

What Is Capicola, And How Does It Stack Up To Prosciutto?

Also known by names like coppa or capocollo, and famously as gabagool in some Italian-American communities, it is a popular charcuterie item used in sandwiches, on pizza, or on its own.
