MBFields Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 This seems like a dumb question but asking anyway. Point of aim sighting on a bench rest. Does it matter if aiming level at target or down like we r shooting at targets at a match? What is the best way to do this. Thx. Quote
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 With the depression angle being fairly small, and typical revolver sight-in distances (7 to 10 yards), no point of aim difference shooting downhill or level. Same-same. Shoot till you get POI and POA aligned as close you want. With fixed sight revolvers, it is real important to have settled on a load that you figure you will use "forever." Changing your load (velocity and recoil) will make lots more difference in POI than most other thing you can do - other than a bad flinch. good luck, GJ 5 Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 It is also important to hold the gun the same way you will when shooting in a match. Do not rest the gun or your hand(s) on a support. Rest your elbow(s) on the bench, but allow the recoil to kick the gun the same way it will due to recoil. If you would hold the gun with two hands, then do it that way; if one-handed, then shoot that way. 5 Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 I use sights, but apparently not always correctly 🤣! 1 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 When I started in SASS, I bought a pair of OMV. Having come from Bullseye and IPSC, I did use the sights, I worked up a load I liked and filed the sights to tune accuracy. The targets were further away then, there was even a catch up target where you shot the guns out of the figure's hands. I wasn't the quickest, but I did that whenever the target was available. 1 Quote
MBFields Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 Well the thing is its a 7.5" barrel and bogus deal is pretty close when he says u can bump the target. I am used to my usfa's so need to figure out the ruger. Also the barrel length makes it more interesting. Quote
MBFields Posted November 12, 2025 Author Posted November 12, 2025 Ok. I'll try be more like you. 🤔😉🤣🤣🤣 1 2 Quote

High Spade Mikey Wilson Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 I have a pair of SASS Ruger NV in .357 I bought about 10 years ago for my wife when she used to shoot. Both pistols shoot 6" low / a couple of inches left. I tried different powder, different weight bullets, and just can't get them near POA. I really don't want to file down the front sights. I was able to get all my Uberti pistols close to POA with different reloading recipes so I just shoot them. Nice pistols, but not useful to me. Quote

Now Dusty, we can start having you shoot the rifle targets with pistols and cody dixon targets for rifle ifn that makes you feel more at home. LOL We aim to please.
