A B-1 bomber suffered a landing gear failure when touching down at Edwards Air Force Base. As the aircraft was skidding down the dry lake bed, the tower controller asked if they needed assistance.

 

Through the shower of smoke, dust, and sparks came the response from the B-1 bomber crew...

they were in a lot better place at that moment than most of the B-17 and B-29 bombers that were crashing back when , even tho it was still touch and go for them , they werent spiralling down from bomb run altitude
