We bought this house about twelve years ago.  Narrow two lane street with no shoulders, blind driveways, no curbs, gutters, sidewalks, or street lights, lots of trees and shrubs almost in the street, and no fire plugs.   A perfect Hallowe'en street.......if you want a scary, dangerous, and gloomy place to visit.

Last night I had two little girls come to the door and five minutes later two boys and a girl showed up.  None of the kids were over six or seven years old and wore some really cute costumes.  Both groups of kids had Momma drive them over and pull in the driveway.  Good thinking and great common sense.

They were the first trick-or-treaters we have had visit in twelve years.

Did my heart good to see them and I hope more come by next year.

We were the first family to move into this subdivision, 45 years ago.

When the sixteen houses were filled, there were 32 kids under the age of ten on this one block alone and we’re located directly behind the local grammar school!

For many years, it was a continuous parade of children and cars moving slowly up and down the street and every door had a light on over it and a big bowl of treats behind it EVERY HALLOWEEN!!

We still buy a big bag of candy treats every year and the light over the door is on, but you could count the trick-or-treaters that have visited in the last few years on one hand!

It has been organized “Trunk or Treat” parties here for the last few years.

My grandson and the rest of the local high school drama club sponsored one last night featuring the carnivorous plant from “Little Shop of Horrors” and the thespians all dressed as monsters and such last night!

They filled the jaw of the plant with candy…

Trick-or-Treating kinda lost it's appeal when people started shuttling carloads of kids from hood-to-hood.  Then came the organized "trunk-or-treating".

Only went a few times as a little kid.  Of course mom confiscated all the candy and rationed it out.  The best of it we never saw again.

As an older kid it became more about the "trick" side of it.  The crew I ran with didn't grab people's Jack-O-Lanterns off the porch and smash them or open the pasture gate so the cows would wander out.  Hiding in the bushes and scaring the little kids was fun though.  Mostly snuck around in our camo and face paint acting like we were up to no good.

I guess the best Halloween times were the parties when at University.  People came up with some crazy good costumes and... there was alcohol... and when people are in crazy costumes and there's alcohol...well...

Our house is in a draw with lots of trees and a winding driveway and other than our 2 grandkids being brought over by their folks over the years, we’ve not had a single trick or treater in 32 years. We buy a little candy, just in case but have never given any out.

First year, I bought candy.  No takers over 18 years.  Worst case, a beer mug full of change.  Worked a lifetime ago when I was trick or treating. probably still.

i live near the end of our road - before it turns away from the river , our property looks like a county park in daylight fronting on the river but at night its really dark here - no street lights , and even if my exterior lights are on full force its still pretty dark here , not very inviting to kids full of halloween thoughts , so to add to that they are replacing all of our utilities and the street this year , we are ib a major construction zone , not been able to access my driveway for near a month now and ;looks like another couple weeks - none was out on our area this year ,

my house is set back on the lot with lots of trees , its dark and spooky , in the last 34 years we have had very few T or Ters

Visiting our daughter and her family in Conway, Arkansas ( half hour north of Little Rock.)  Halloween is a big deal here.  Our grandson dressed as Marty McFly from Back To The Future, and the family drove their golf cart, converted into a DeLorean,  around the neighborhood.  I stayed at their house and passed out candy to over 300 kids!

Really a great Halloween!

Oh Hell no.

I keep mini Baby Ruth and 3 Musketeers on hand all the time.  You don't have to be trick or treating to come to my house.  The single mom next door drops by to talk guns and pray for me all the time.  A couple who live down the street and work at the local library drop by talk books.
