Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 (edited) From Fox News today. Miranda Lambert is embracing her inner cowgirl. In a recent interview on the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, the 41-year-old country artist opened up about her country lifestyle and her new hobby. She told host Joe Rogan she recently picked up mounted shooting, further explaining, "I just started last year. I’m not good at all, but I love it." She went on to explain that her friend, Ken Shane, a 10-time world champion mounted shooter, introduced her to the sport. "I just never had the guts to go do it, you know? And finally my husband was like, 'Stop talking about it, and go out there and do it. Go out there and shoot with her. You're gonna love it,'" she said. "Wow. And I got addicted immediately. It's just like something different." Lambert opened up about her latest hobby. (Eric McCandless/Disney via Getty Images) According to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, it's a "fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition." Competitors are scored based on time and accuracy with points being taken off for dropping the gun, missing a balloon and other factors. Rogan appeared surprised by Lambert’s new pastime, calling it "very Wild West" and joking that practicing for the sport is "essentially training how to fight with a gun on a horse." "It's super fun. And it's like, you know, just something that like started a new hobby at 40," Lambert said. "Like, it's just try to like preoccupy my mind and, and I don't know, I think it inspires me to, like, take a break from thinking about what I think about every single day, which is music industry, you know? So, just like trying new things and saying, 'What the hell, let's go for it.'" Edited October 31, 2025 by Tex Jones, SASS 2263 11 Quote

Stump Water Posted November 1, 2025 Posted November 1, 2025 A couple of weeks back someone posted a video of a lady mounted shooter on Instagram. Someone mused how dangerous that must be for bystanders. An expert replied that it wasn't dangerous because they used tiny lead shot or rubber bullets. I replied to the expert and told him how it works and provided a link to the "about" page on the CMSA website. Of course the expert rejected that and declared it "impossible" to break the balloons without some type of projectile. 1 3 Quote

Alpo Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 I experimented back when I was in high school. I had bought a starter pistol. Used those 22 acorn blanks. I go out in the backyard and there was a turkey oak leaf lying in the yard. And from three or four inches away I shot that leaf and it burned a hole through it. Okay. It ain't a toy. Quote

I'm sure she also is aware that she plays to her audience somewhat in interviews. I know plenty of people that are somewhat verbal chameleons. Put me in a crowd from SE Kentucky, or my family that hails from there, and I can easily lapse into "ya'll" and all that and be completely comfortable. Put me in a courtroom or a bar function, and I can adopt the more formal language. I also speak fluent veteran. No, I don't believe I am special, I think most people do it to an extent. Some just more than others. 1 1 Quote
