Highwall Posted October 31 Posted October 31 I know there is lots of choices out there from the Winchester 73 to Earps Buntline to Lucrezia borgia and the iconic Hawken rifle but for me, since I am a rimfire guy and a fan of the 22 short, my choice would be the 1857 vest pocket Smith and Wesson #1. It was a gamblers defensive weapon and not designed as a killer. A great weapon for deterance! Now that is a stellar looking weapon of good ergonomics!☺️ 10 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted October 31 Posted October 31 I have a few, almost by accident. My gunsmith buddy bought some wall plaques from a bar, (closing? Not sure), of old pistols that had been hanging there for who knows, 50 years plus? He loves to tinker and make his own parts, so he restored these to functional. I bought two of them, one for me, and one for Da Boy, both 38 SW. The Harrington and Richardson American. Pain to unload with that fixed cylinder, but it works. The Iver Johnson Second Model. Note the small brass piece - that's the part he replaced due to it being welded open. They weren't exactly what I was looking for in a classic historic firearm, but I could afford them. A lot of the old Suicide Specials are still around, but being fired with smokeless powder before people knew different, being far cheaper made, b t the look in my son's eyes when I told him, when these guns were made, Wyatt Earp was still walking this Earth, (sometime between 1895 and 1905, IIRC), well, that was neat. Then from the same guy I fell into another oddball piece of history, this Australian Lend Lease US Made Smith and Wesson Victory Model in 38SW, factory rebuilt in Australia in 1954. So, yeah, I'm good with these for now, 6 Quote

Pat Riot Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Since the era was not defined I would like the following: A new S&W model of 1905 .38 Special with a 6.5” barrel. https://www.maynardsfineart.com/auction-lot/smith-wesson-hand-ejector-38-military-police_42B4D14869/ 4 Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Lt. Fred Beecher's M1860 Henry or his actual Savage Figure-8 trigger revolver that would go with the holster for it that I happen to own! His nephews sold the revolver sometime during WWII, and no one knows where it is, nor how to identify it. 1 Quote
Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Because Boggus Deal already got TR's model 95 Winchester, I'll take Jack O'Conner's custom .270 with the Alvin Biesen (sp) custom stock, it was a real beauty. 4 Quote

I know you’re talking about Roosevelt’s .405 because every red blooded American knows that that pipsqueak .270 wouldn’t kill a small prairie dog! Much less an elk!🤪🤪🤪 1 2 Quote

The top one is on display at Fort Laramie and the bottom one is in England at The Royal Artillery Museum. Based on the differing muzzle size I’d say that they were different calibers. It sold for just over $1 million last time it was up for sale. The writer actually got to shoot it, as well. Edited October 31 by Dapper Dave Quote
