Kathy Hochul signed the measure earlier this month, expanding on a 2020 law that gave law enforcement the option to remove firearms that were in plain sight or discovered during a consensual or lawful search. Under the new mandate, officers must temporarily take weapons if a victim reports feeling in danger or if police believe the seizure is necessary to prevent potential harm."
