Longhorn restaurant in Tombstone

We were eating dinner at the Longhorn restaurant in Tombstone, where they had set aside tables for 25 SASS members for over an hour. They were busy and other people had to wait because no tables were available.

Well guess what! They were a No Show. Shame on you. And that will reflect on SASS and Bordertown next year.

i gotta agree on that - not good PR , if you make reservations and they are willing to accommodate - show up or call in ,

Hopefully they got names as to who made the reservations.

That’s funny all the Longhorns down here in South Florida don’t take reservations, they are too busy. Interesting. And yes I think that was rude as well not showing up but I also believe that there is something else to the story because no manager would put that many tables out of commission unless there were connections to the party.  Not the whole story here I think.

Yes.

The Longhorn STEAKHOUSE is a chain in Florida.

The Longhorn RESTAURANT is a small business in Tombstone.

The Longhorn in Tombstone is not a chain, locally owned and operated for many decades.

My work wife and I had lunch there after the Bordertown Award Ceremony.  We were seated promptly and were served a tasty lunch.  We will return.  The restaurant website says the owners also own Big Nose Kate’s.

Ahh, my mistake I don’t remember the restaurant from my times I visited Tombstone but that was back about 15 years ago. My bad!!

This did occur in Tombstone, Arizona not in South Florida Nimble Fingers. Just a shame something like this happens.  Hope there is more information on this so it does not hurt Border Town folks.

A savvy manager or owner will likely say, "Sorry, we don't take reservations, it's first come first served" in the future. The restaurant lost an entire meal service for 25 people by being nice.  NOT a good look for whoever made the reservation and then was a no-show, without letting the restaurant know.

Yep I understand that.

My wife's Birthday two years ago at Longhorns steak house Sierra Vista. There was about 15 at this get-together.

This wasn't fair for the owners, the staff, and the patrons who had to wait. We ate there many times.

That’s just wrong. Personally, I won’t eat (or at least wait long) in a restaurant that doesn’t take reservations and that choice for dining is shrinking. Why? Well no shows and the lowering of etiquette standards is a component. The other is we choose to wait like cattle in a chute. We’ve been trained in the last 40 years to expect poor service. No reservations, twenty registers and only one open, ring out your own purchase and bag for yourself. No thank you. I miss ace hardware where the guy in the vest knew where every bolt, valve, fitting and every other thing was and how to install it. Steak house with reservations. Stores where you’re greeted and offered help. Oh and two papers a day.

And auto parts store where the guy just walked to shelf and got what you needed with out you knowing what day if the week the car was built!

This simple statement would seem to sum up most people's responses to this event;  "I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.", as spoken by  Captain Woodrow F. Call in Lonesome Dove. The lesson unleashed by Capt. Call on the arrogant  army scout is one of the best scenes in the Lonesome Dove series.

Curious.   Do we know if actually any reservations were made by a SASS shooter or some jokester anti-gunner playing

a trick to make Cowboy shooters look bad?

Another thought:   with todays phone communication devices, call numbers are registered and stored in our phones.

Does the restaurant have the number of the caller?   Has the manager ask the employees if anyone took a call to

cancel and the employee failed to inform the manager?

Any of these things are as likely to happen, if not more so, than a SASS member making reservations and then ALL

25 of those folks become a 'No Show'...... especially at a good steak restaurant.

Not saying this didn't happen BUT I can attest to the fact that we tried to make reservations for a group of 14 for dinner.  We were told that they DO NOT take reservations and all members of the group have to be present BEFORE they will be seated.  We waited and they did seat all 14 of us but it was when they could accommodate our group.  I agree that there must be more to this story than has been written and I also do not think our Cowboy family would act this way.  Of course that is my opinion and I could be wrong but I don't think so!!!!

You are now talking about my granddad and uncles parts store, Jones Auto Parts in OKC. I worked there after school and weekends while in high school. Seldom did we need to go to the parts catalog and look something up and never had anything returned because it was the wrong one. It was also funny when guys and gals came in without a clue what they needed and would try to describe it to us. Most of the time we were able to decipher what they needed and provide the correct part to them. LOL

That is how I remember it.  We usually eat there at least once during our Tumbleweed visit and it is usually with group.

I had dinner there with a group of SASS shooters.  The food and service were excellent, but what impressed me the most was how much fun the employees were having.  Excellent management results in outstanding service!!!
