Best buddy in high school was there. He joined the Corps right out of high school. That was his first duty assignment outside the US.  He wasn't one of the casualties.

Its okay , worse to see it of course. The Company I work for was actually hosting a event for the Semper Fi fund. Owner knows I was Both Marine and Army, so told him to impress everyone by Remembering 23 OCT .
 We have a new corporate building so he was showing them and well to introduce me , turns out to be General Conway Former CMC who takes one look at me and says "you look familiar " well sir 31MEU we BS'd about Root and Iraq for a few .

I was in Beirut just a couple of weeks before the bombing.  :It happened after I left and I never went back.
