Alpo Posted October 14 Posted October 14 This is softball. So sue me. I don't know what the game is (although I assume it is college), when the game was, who Texas was playing, or even who this fielder is (her ponytail blocks the name on her shirt). But it's impressive. 3 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted October 14 Posted October 14 College softball is great! A different game than baseball, but similar. Very skilled young ladies, and most quite watchable. 1 Quote
Alpo Posted October 14 Author Posted October 14 I wonder if she will go back to her full name? Her name is Isabella. Her family is of Italian ancestry. In one of the things I was reading about her just now it said that she plans to get Italian citizenship so she can play for the Italian National softball League. Bella, in Italian, means beautiful. Just seems like that would be a hard name to live with. Like living in any spanish-speaking country named Linda. So if she does, indeed, get Italian citizenship and join the Italian softball league, s'pose she'll start calling herself Isabella? 1 Quote

Alpo Posted October 14 Author Posted October 14 Of course it is. And here in America there would not any problem. But still, in italian, Bella means beautiful. Logic just says that if you live in Italy and your name is Bella you will get teased. Linda means beautiful in Spanish, and if you live in a Spanish speaking country and your name is Linda you will get teased. Belle means beautiful in French. If you live in a French speaking country and your name is Belle you will get teased. You will get teased if you are actually attractive. If you are not beautiful you will catch more crap. This girl is cute. But she is not beautiful. Quote
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Playing ball, she’s not trying. But I’d bet for a night out, she could work wonders. Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted October 14 Posted October 14 I've never heard of any of the 4 Mexican girls i knew named Linda being teased about it A name is a name. Sophia means Wisdom, never heard of a Sophie being teased about it. Quote

Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 It’s only skin deep anyway. I’d bet she’s not that superficial. 1 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted October 15 Posted October 15 Pretty darned gorgeous, if you want my opinion. Ask 100 men what a beautiful woman is and get 200 opinions. Re: being teased. Maybe it's because I was raised in North San Diego County, but I'm used to names like that. And guys with names like "Jose Maria" and "Jesus Maria." Oh, and just plain "Jesus." French has "Jean Marie." Nobody gave them grief about it. Even knew a "Hilarion," one of the most dour guys you'd ever want to meet. Nobody had any issue. 2 Quote
Stump Water Posted October 15 Posted October 15 She plays pro now. I didn't know there was pro SB. https://www.instagram.com/belladaytonn 2 Quote
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) I don’t think the name would be a problem in any language. Pro SB. Sure. I worked with a guy who pitched. I suppose it might have been semi pro; he, a pitcher got paid a little, others did it for the after game beers. As I recall a car dealer paid the bar bill.)))) irish ike, SASS #43615 Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I don't watch anything involving a ball except the college world series of softball. Much different than baseball. The larger ball, more surface area, lets them through some crazy movement balls. 65 mph fast ball from 43'. The men hard ball players think they can whack that big ball. And then they get struck out. 2 Quote

Can say the same thing about softballers at the plate for baseball. Although they are more likely to have played baseball before than baseballers playing softball. Give them a dozen or so at bats and they get the timing. 2 Quote
