Stump Water Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I don't think this is a good idea... at all. https://www.thesoutherntrapper.com/collections/new-products/products/shotgun-holster 1 1 Quote
Alpo Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 It seems, from looking at their videos, that only works with an over-under break open gun. Now if they also showed somebody carrying a side-by-side, or a pump, or an automatic, or a $90 single shot - well, I might think more of it. But it appears it was designed to work with a break open over under. They say it works with everything, but they only show it with a break open over under. Hmmm. Quote
Alpo Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Also, while it might do wonderful if you're quail hunting or pheasant hunting in an open field that has been mowed over so nothing is more than about a foot high. But a lot of my hunting with a shotgun was in amongst the pine trees. And quail hunting and brush that was higher than my knees. I don't think walking around with a gun hanging on my belt would be a good plan. Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 For one thing, I don't see, from the ad, how you "holster" that break-top, O/U shotgun. For another, depending on the height of the wearer, there exists the potential to severely-injure ones leg or foot. especially if one drop shells into the chamber, and is tempted to pack the gun around that way. Rip Snorter Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Didn't Yancey Derringer's Pawnee Indian companion, Pahoo, pack a sawed off across his back under his blanket? TV, of course! Quote
Alpo Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I have a shotgun holster. But it's a holster. For the shotgun. Not for the trigger guard. For the shotgun. 1 1 Quote

I wouldn't use it in the field at all. Maybe trap/skeet shooting where you're moving slowly & deliberately across even ground. I guess it would be better than the guys you see with their broke open O/U thrown over their shoulder hands-free. 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I have always used an old fashioned sling....and not all that often, either. 1 Quote

Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I think Gunzilla had a quiver for his 10 guage. 1 Quote

Alpo Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I've heard of that. Heard of Gunzilla and his shotgun strapped on his back, many years back. How did he draw it without getting massive penalties for pointing that gun at everybody and their little brother? Quote

If you ever met Gunzilla, you would never forget him. Horace 1 Quote

How did he draw it without getting massive penalties for pointing that gun at everybody and their little brother? He had developed a way to draw it, similar to a cross draw holster. Never broke the 170. But at the loading/unloading table. Edited October 12, 2025 by Doc Shapiro 1 Quote
Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 He had more costumes than anyone I ever saw. Wasn't it him that wore a red high heel shoe around his neck once ? Horace 1 Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Gunzilla is still alive and kicking. I shot with an inlaw of his last week. Hopefully he will come and shoot a match with my home club in the near future. 2 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 This thread from 2017 has the names of some of his costumes and some photos but nowhere near showing all his unique costuming. https://forums.sassnet.com/index.php?/topic/262798-who-is-gunzilla/. Believe he was a good gunfighter when he wanted to be. Use to have a website that showed most of his costumes but it appears to be gone. 2 Quote
