We all know how there are pistols out there, revolvers and more for our game, derringers, that are chambered for .45 Colt or .410 shotshells.

Well, that has gotten me to thinking.   Does this mean that, at least theoretically, you could run .45 Colt shotshells in a .410 shotgun?   Or .454 Casull, or any case that is basically just a longer version of .45 Colt, but still shorter than 2.5 inches to create "all brass" .410's?   I am thinking that these would be in all likelihood, reduced power loads.

In Theory.  But since "all Brass" 410s are readily available (Magtech), why bother.  The ballistic performance would be marginal at best.

Basically because I have a plethora of other brass to reload.    At the moment, this is of course all theoretical.   If the loads using the shorter brass were too mild, I'd not bother to actually do it.   I guess you could say I'm just curious to know if it's possible.  Practical is another matter entirely!

Probably chamber and fire.  Split the brass? Dunno.

If fired too much you'd get chamber rings just like you do when you shoot .38 spl. in a .357 mag. revolver for years.  As you would in the modern .410/45C revolvers.

The gun is not handy for me to check and verify right now, but it seems like my brother's snake charmer .410 would not accept 45 Colt brass but did accept 44-40 (I was making some BP blanks).  So maybe it depends on the gun??

Just because it fits does not make it a good idea.  Was using 444Marlin brass instead of 410 hulls in a Bond derringer when I realized you could chamber a 444 Marlin round in place of 410        Amazed nobody on Utube or TikTok has tried it        GW
