I’ve done mine successfully in my rice cooker!

I do the measuring and the cooker handles the rest.

Apparently some people kiss them.

I like mine with just butter and a little sugar.

@Scarletthas a source of some of the best grits I’ve had since leaving the South.

You KNOW IT! NOTE TO FOLKS NOT FROM THE SOUTH!! GritS are ALWAYS plural when speaking of the ones you eat. Singular grit is for sandpaper. I’m not a sweet grits fan. I like them with some salt and butter, you can add cheese and garlic, too. This link is where I buy mine.Half A Hand Henri likes them, too!

@Rip Snorter… us southerners would say,  “if you have to ASK what TRUE GRIT is… you don’t have it.” 🤣😂😘

Only times I had Grits was at the Quantico Mess Hall in the mid '60's - reminds me of the line out of Crocodile Dundee - "You can live on it...".  I'll leave the rest out because I didn't find it inedible, just in a class with my Grandfather's everyday Oatmeal,  all 4 seasons, when visiting as a small boy.  I did eat both, have never prepared either, and I do /  have done most of the family cooking for 4 decades and change.

BTW True Grit was a pun on the movie.

HELP  (I hope)

Small inconsistencies can make a big difference with grits. A Tablespoon or two more or less liquid, a slight difference in your heat source, how fast you add the cereal to the liquid,  how you stir it.

I'd bet on slight differences in the amounts grits and liquid.

If you have a digital scale, set it to grams and weigh out all your ingredients. That will remove a variable.

For example: https://www.seriouseats.com/how-to-make-grits

😂🥰🤣🥰🤣I was punning back at you!

We ALL should know what True Grit is… the first cowboy match I attended as a visitor I asked what this sign meant: We Don’t Rent Pigs….

It was as if I had asked who Jesus was! The collective disgust among the cowboys. Needless to say, they invited me to shoot a stage and I was HOOKED! Then, went home and watched ALL six hours of Lonesome Dove! ♥️

One cup water. 1/4 tsp salt. Bring to a boil.

Stir in 1/4 cup grits. Lower the heat to a simmer. Stir occasionally.

It ain't rocket science.

You won't know for a week or so.  I don't eat grits all that often.....so a Back At You response to your Back At Yo...." ah crap!  This could go on longer than NCIS.

Usually if you read the label on the package they come in AND follow the directions they come out perfectly good. I noticed in an earlier post your ratios were way off but figured to each his own.

I made the CRITICAL error of thinking the whole package was what the directions called for… those grits were taking FOR EVER to cook and I just kept adding liquid… 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Finally, they were done. Add enough cheese and they were Delicious!

Moral: Read and MEASURE!

That’s the challenge and the fun!

Bought some Dolly Parton grits with shrimp.  Not too bad and it was easier to clean up.  Next time I'll add some Mexican style corn and a bit of garlic.  It's got the makin's of a good base to work from.

I'm still looking for a rice cooker.  I guesss no one in Arizona eats rice.

Check Walmart

I did.  They haven't any idea what I'm talking about.  We have 2 Walmarts in the area, neither one is worth my time any more.

Most of the time that's true.  I have had a few disaster type messes, but they didn't kill me...yet.

You know, since everything in Walmart comes FROM China, one would think they would have rice cookers.

Have you looked at Amazon?

Are you a member of COSTCO or Sams Club?

Dropped Costco  awhile back, Sam Club moved down to Phoenix, 100 miles away, about six years ago.  I'm going to check Amazon next, They're only three miles for here and usually have whatever I want.

You can also get an "InstaPot" type cooker. Does rice and a bunch more food.

Thanks, I'll take a look.
