Anyone know where I can get a replacement cylinder for a Pietta copy of the SAA?

I noticed awhile back Numrich arms has a few pieces for cowboy guns. VTI is great to work with.....they answer or call you back and  and talk to you like back in the old days!

There are some reputable "breakers" on eBay as well.  You should screen the part for "Unused."

One of my match Piettas has a Colt 2nd generation Cylinder in it.  The original Pietta cylinder started over rotating. My gunsmith diagnosed as poorly milled bolt slots in the cylinder.  I found several 2nd gen Colt cylinders on Ebay at far more reasonable prices than a new Pietta cylinder. My gunsmith had no trouble at all fitting it to my Pietta. It's worked wonderfully for the last 7 years.

You didn't mention what caliber you were looking for.  I just looked on Ebay and there were several .357 and .38 cylinder available at very reasonable prices.  The .45 LC ones were a lot more "pricey". 

 

Remember, third gen Colt cylinders will not work in a Pietta.

What about a first generation cylinder?  I have read that they are the same as seconds.

There was a 10 degree (below centerline) change to the ratchet timing between the first and second generation cylinders. I know that the second generation cylinders are almost exactly the same as the Pietta cylinders.  There are of course small differences between all cylinders that require fitting by a knowledgeable gunsmith. I gave my gunsmith 3 different Colt 2nd gen cylinders to try and one out of the 3 required no adjustment to work. He stated that he could have gotten the other two to fit with minor modifications.

 

I'm not a gunsmith; I'm not sure if he could have gotten a first gen cylinder to work. I do know that first generation cylinders, in good condition, are a lot more expensive.
