Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 ...about 50% finish on the externals and lots of rust and little finish on the receiver, original sling (I think) but very ratty, bayonet without a scabbard and with one grip scale broken and poorly repaired, and an after market 40 round magazine. No one recognized my presence until, after ten minutes, give or take a minute, I asked if I could see the piece. The guy didn't answer me just pointed to a sign informing me that they didn't let customers handle the guns until paid for. I turned and walked out before I heard all of the insulting comment that the guy growled at me. A real estate sign on the inside of the door said the place is for sale. No sh--! I wonder why. Oh, yeah, a sign hanging from the carbine told of a price of $3600.00. This sort of thing is rapidly reaching reaching epidemic proportions. 3 1 Quote

Injun Ryder, SASS #36201L Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 I would love to go into that shop and just give them grief about such a travesty. Send me a PM and I will do so the next time I am in PV. 1 Quote
Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Seems a bit high, considering I have this one on my shop shelf right now. Inland @ $1380 2 Quote
Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 I have an Underwood M-1 that my Dad bought back when you could by them through the mail. It looks to be unfired. He put it in a safe at work and left it there until he gave it to me. Still in the original shipping box from the arsenal in Tooele, Utah with the original accessories. One of the big auction houses occasionally calls me to list it but I haven't yet. Not sure what it's worth. Horace Quote

Gave a guy forty bucks for it back in the mid-'80's... 🌝 In 80 I was offered one for $100. Don't know who made it - didn't know anything about the makers back then. I turned down the deal because it was too short. What's the length of pull on them things - 12 inches? So I didn't buy it. Couple years later I bought a Universal for my daughter to use while deer hunting. She did that for a few years, and then she discovered boys when she was 16, and so it just sat for about 10 more years and I sold it to a co-worker. By then I liked the size of the gun, but I heard too many bad things about Universals. Got that Inland from the CMP. Year later I was all excited cuz I found another World War II one at a gun show for $250. A Rock Island Arsenal. Then I found out the Rock Island Arsenal did not make them. Rock Island was more of a repair facility. A little more research, after the purchase, allowed me to discover the Rock Island Arsenal was a subsidiary of Springfield Arsenal - the people that make the M1A. They started Rock Island Arsenal for the purpose of making carbines. New-made receivers with all GI parts. That did not last very long, so my Rock Island is sort of rare. But it's set up early war - flip sight, push button safety. I like it. Even if it's not original. 1 Quote
J.D. Daily Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 In 2019 I bought an Inland from Royal Tiger Imports who had bought a lot of stored for many years Ethiopian surplus rifles. For $1250 you could get low wood flip-up sight vs. ones that either were late WWII or arsenal rebuilds. The only thing not correct was the barrel shroud which has 4 rivets instead of original 2. The sling likely is original because of the wear. 1 Quote

Seems a waste of space and makes the little carbine bulkier that it needs to be. But, you go to your church and I'll go to mine. I'd find a bayonet for it, though. I never had much use for bayonets, but it looks nekkid without one. ;D Edited October 6, 2025 by Forty Rod SASS 3935 Quote
Alpo Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 It reminds me of taping two 30 round Thompson magazines together, so when you shoot one dry you can quickly turn it over and load it and then you got 30 more rounds. When you first hear but it seems like a neat idea. And it really looks badass - like you know what you're doing and you got all kinds of experience shooting bad guys. But after giving it some consideration I've decided it's a really stupid idea. And so is that magazine pouch on the stock. Quote
Utah Bob #35998 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 If you are very lucky the cheapest one you will find will run 900. Most are $1000 or better these days. Quote
