Dream Chaser, SASS #79316 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I ate at the Chicken Shack today and an officer was in a booth close to me. All I could do not to smart off to him. My pork chop was very good and the sweet potato fries are fantastic. 2 Quote

I guess we can agree to disagree. TM I’m not calling him a liar, but I am questioning the one mile over the speed limit ticket because I’ve never heard of that anywhere! Maybe he was mistaken? I said it SOUNDS like fake news I didn’t say it was! I wasn’t there and neither were you. I wish he would show us the ticket. BTW I’m not the only one who questioned this so let’s leave it at that. Nostrum Damus SASS #110702 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 "There are other ways to generate revenue other than bs traffic stops such as described above. " Not really, in truth. Lots of small towns all across America do this, for exactly this reason. In red states, and in blues states; politics is 100% irrelevant. To quote someone famous, "it's all about the money, you moron." 1 Quote

I saw this post and asked Doc What the story was… I’m guessing he was fussing about it with Sgt Eli. Doc told me, “it was actually 51 in a 45…I exaggerated because I was frustrated.” Per Doc, he is going to be in Oklahoma for the court date anyway and will go to court about it. As for not spending any money in Arcadia - I don’t think this incident warrants that - but you do you. Hugs! Scarlett Edited October 7 by Scarlett 4 6 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) I can say with absolute certainty that I know of two speed traps in the southeast where 1mph over the speed limit would get you a ticket! In the sixties and early seventies in Smyrna, Tennessee, you could get such a ticket. In this case in that place, the mayor was the brother of the sheriff and the traffic judge was related to them. Smyrna was the last small town that you HAD to pass through going from Nashville to Chattanooga along I24! The interstate highway was not complete and you had to get off and go through Smyrna to complete the trip in either direction. It was once listed in numerous publications as one of the worst speed traps in the nation! Another such place was Cartersville, Georgia! In the mid ‘70s you had to go through Cartersville going to and from Atlanta through Chattanooga. The speed limit was 35mph. The mayor’s son was allegedly killed in an accident involving a semi tractor-trailer. That part, I can’t actually say for sure is true, but if you went 36mph in Cartersville, you got a ticket! If you were driving a truck, you might get more than a ticket if you were stopped! At one time, Cartersville was THE number one speed trap in America!! I never got a ticket in Cartersville! I worked for a truck leasing outfit in Dalton and was told by many drivers that I’d better never get caught speeding there! My boss told me the same thing! I bet I never got to 30mph going through there!! Now, Smyrna was another story entirely!! Over the years, I got caught twice there! The first one was in 1969! It cost me $100.00! I was doing 41mph in a 40 zone! Later on, I had to go through there every day to get to and from work! At four in the morning, I was stopped for speeding as I passed the air base that was at the edge of town. I was definitely speeding. That one cost me $150.00 1973 dollars!! A year later, I drove my race car through that town on my last trip through there before moving away. I suspect that I was probably doing well in excess of 125mph at 2:00 am and the cops couldn’t keep up with me! I loaded the car on my trailer and went home. I heard from a couple of my friends that they swore to put me under the jail if they could lay their hands on me! Soon after that, I24 was completed in Tennessee and Smyrna’s revenue was drastically and negatively impacted!! 🤣 A couple of years later, the Cartersville off ramp became a low traffic area as I24 was completed through there as well!! BUT YES!! Some of the stories about legendary speed traps are/were very real and no embellishments are necessary! Edited October 7 by Blackwater 53393 3 Quote

Shawnee Hills Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I thought the whole point of this thread was to give those heading to Land Run a heads up about watching their speed going through Arcadia but it seems to have turned into an attempt to discredit Doc. Seems a bit inappropriate, no? 1 2 Quote

Hoss Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I think I got lucky. Headed from range to banquet, zipping down 66 at about 60, just entering Arcadia, realized I was speeding. About the same time cop on side of road lit me up. Fortunately he did not stop me. WHEW! Quote

Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted October 12 Posted October 12 There was a patrol car parked just outside the Chicken Shack as I drove home from Awards Banquet last night. Everyone was driving at the speed limit and he had no one pulled over. With the amount of alcohol the Chicken Shack serves he might have issued some DUI citations earlier in the evening. Quote
Frontier Lone Rider Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Plus, if you buy new tires which are not the same exact diameter as your original ones, that will change the reading on your speedometer. Quote
Nostrum Damus SASS #110702 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 We appreciated the warnings given here. We carefully obeyed all posted speed limits in Arcadia, and saw one vehicle get pulled over on Saturday. Hopefully not a Land Runner. Quote
Preacherman Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I was told by another cowboy friend that he got stopped doing 60 in a 45 and they gave him a warning, No ticket. Quote

Maybe they were trying to encourage him to run into town and scoop up a bunch of lottery tickets... cause it sure sounds like it was his lucky day. Lot's more money to be made by the local seller on a winning lottery ticket. Quote
Billy Boots, # 20282 LTG-Regulator Posted October 13 Posted October 13 In talking with Doc seems he was trying to emphasis that 46 would also get you a ticket. So glad he is staying there for court there were a few things that may help him beat charges. Quote
