Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 1 Posted October 1 (edited) ...for my YouTube channel Abilene Cowboy Shooter (link at bottom) plus 1.4 Million subscribers. What a long strange trip it's been! Except that it really didn't take that long - about 3 1/2 years. Hoss was a major part of it with his 285 Million view video of course but if you add up his other videos they are fully a third of the views on the channel. Thanks again, Hoss, you're a star! Some trivia: top 5 countries are India, Brazil, USA, Indonesia, Mexico. And that's just 41% of the views, they really are world-wide (17 million views from Bangladesh. 4 million from Nepal. Sherpas watching from Everest base camp?) 7.1 Million watch hours. That would be like one person watching non-stop for over 800 years. There are 1700 videos. A lot of them are of the same people because that's who I shoot with. I have no idea how many different shooters there are but I'd estimate over 300. At about the time last night that the 1 billion threshold was passed, a Video of Phantom was "trending" in India. Totally impossible to know, but decent odds would be that the billionth view was a customer service rep in Mumbai who was watching shorts on his phone between (or during) calls. Disclaimer: when I say Videos, these are Video Shorts. The channel is 99% Shorts of people shooting. Shorts get more views and are much easier to make than videos with "real content" that gives you information of one sort or another, but I'm still pretty stoked. I have an article written about this for the Chronicle, however it needs to be in a digital issue because it is a long article plus it can have links and pics. But I missed the deadline for the digital issue that will be out in a few weeks (edit: it came out today). So it will be next spring before the next digital issue. You can wait. Texas Maverick Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Yeah, my 1.8 million views is a drop in the bucket. I am still surprised by who the viewers are though. Not what I would have ever guessed. TM 2 Quote

Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 I have just noticed that some a**hole has copied my youtube channel and made an Abilene Cowboy Shooter facebook page that looks just like my channel! It has a Fort Worth address listed. I am trying to report it to facebook but I need the imposter's email address or mobile phone number listed on their profile which I can't get since I am not a facebook member. Can someone who is a facebook member see if they can get this info? https://www.facebook.com/abilenecowboyshooter Based on what I'm seeing there I think this page has been there for several years. 3 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted October 3 Posted October 3 That's amazing! I recognize some of the vids I watched on your site yesterday. I like the one starting with shotgun in hands and the shell already in the tube! That would save me a few minutes.🤣 1 Quote

Maddog Mark Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I got over 12,000 videos on my Youtube channel and am looking for your tips to get more hits. I got 600 subscribers and looking to get it up over 1,000 to even get a chance at your stature. If you can send me a copy of your Chronical story before it gets out I would really apprciate that....Maddog Mark 77911 Youtube.com@maddogmarksass Thank you in advance Quote
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Howdy @Maddog Mark - well I don't know what to tell you. My main advice is to be lucky, very lucky, I think that has been the main factor and my primary approach! Nobody knows how YouTube's algorithms decide which videos to promote and where and for how long. For many of the viral Shorts on my channel I have others of that same shooter that may be better that don't get many views. Obviously once you do start getting views there is some history so those algorithms know a little more about whose feeds to send them to. That first "viral" video I had of Sheriff Robert Love 3 1/2 years ago with 6 million views must have been pure luck, but that added a lot of subscribers which helped the snowball start to roll. I've been slowing down and just before the billion mark I had only posted 2 shorts in a couple weeks and the overall views on the channel dropped to the lowest point in a couple years. So I posted some more after the next match and Phantom's goes to 11 million and the other views go back up then after one week it's back down to the lowest point again. Weird. But the lowest point is still like 50K per day, so I can't complain! But here's what I try to do. Have the shooter as large in the picture as possible and move with them as much as possible (both often not possible due to staying out of the way). These viewers have short attention spans so get right to the shooting, which it looks like you do. I used to include the starting line but unless it is clear and maybe funny I now usually start with the beep. I really couldn't have done any better on this one of yours: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/luy5pap8EGc The gunshots are a little wimpy sounding. A lot of cameras and phones clamp down hard on the audio and make them sound weak. Mine does, too, but when my Samsung Android phone died (only the cell part died, the rest still worked) I found that the audio from the new phone was a little "tinnier" sounding, less bass. So I still use the old phone just for videos. I have no idea if or how much the audio sound contributes to views. I recently watched a video about why someone doesn't get views. The guy mentioned things like once you post something, if you go to watch it immediately make sure you watch the whole thing or the algorithm thinks somebody doesn't like it. And post stuff regularly, otherwise the algorithm will think you aren't serious. Stuff like that. I post videos almost every week. If you don't shoot every week, I guess you could spread them out. I will note that despite the high number of subscribers, most views are from non-subscribers. Most subscribers do not get notifications for Shorts, but they may for regular videos. That's why every time I post a non-shooting video that isn't a short, I lose a few subscribers. But the Shorts are likely to show up in subscribers' Shorts feeds so they have an opportunity to click on it. I may get a few thousand views from subscribers for a Short, which does get them started, but any views beyond that are from non-subscribers. Until this past year, you could not edit the thumbnail on a Short, but you can now so that helps. Mark, PM me your email address, I'll send you what I have written of the article so far. 3 Quote
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted October 23 Author Posted October 23 (edited) Thanks y'all. I posted this "billion view thank you / top ten" video a week ago. It is a short, and of course since it didn't start with shooting it got very few views , and it will pretty much disappear down the list. I need to make a longer Thank You video that isn't a Short. It won't get many views either but will stay near the top of the video listing on the channel for a while. Edited October 23 by Abilene, SASS # 27489 2 1 Quote
