Alpo Posted October 1 Posted October 1 That might have been for legal reasons. It's been a while since I watched that, but if my memory is correct, there's this new airplane design and Jimmy was afraid the wings were going to fall off. Now if they used a Douglas DC-3 or a Lockheed Constellation - a real airplane - and they made a movie about how it's wings were going to fall off - there is a massive lawsuit right there. They would probably need to make sure that their "airplane that was going to fall out of the sky" did not look anything even similar to a real airplane. 1 Quote

A modified Handly Paige Halifax bomber was used for the movie. The movie sort of foreshadowef real life. A couple of years after it movie a de Havilland Comet crashed because of metal fatigue. No, he actually predicted the tail would fall off! Great movie! 1 Quote
J-BAR #18287 Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Saw it as a 7 year old kid at a drive-in theater with mom and dad and kid sister when it came out in 1951. Just one more reason why I don't enjoy flying. 1 Quote
