There's been lots of videos posted with orchestras playing.

This is a Japanese orchestra. Apparently. The ideograms look Japanese. Anyway

All of the men are wearing black tuxedos. The only difference in what they're wearing is it some of them have folded collars and some of them have Wing collars. But that's it. Otherwise they're all dressed the same.

The women? They're all wearing black. But otherwise - long sleeve, short sleeve, no sleeve, high neck, deep cleavage, etc. Apparently women in an orchestra can wear anything they want to, as long as it's black.

Strange.

When it comes to formal dress the ladies have always had more style choices than the men.

For some reason that escapes my comprehension, it seems to bother most women to be seen wearing the exact same outfit as another at the same event.

One year when I was a young Marine, it was coming up on the Marine Corps Ball. At Formation, we were instructed that all male Marines would wear Full Alpha Uniforms or Dress Blues. Women Marines could either wear uniforms OR Formal Gowns. When asked why the WMs could wear gowns, we were told so the we could see that they were far more to look at than the Uniform. I know how THAT would fly today.B)

Last weekend, I attended a Celebration of Life for a friend's son who'd OD'ed. The kid was only 21, and was a Fraternity Member. Many of his Brothers were there, as were many women of the same age group. I'd never seen so many short black dresses and long blond hair in one place in my life.

Every woman needs a little black dress.

I see it in many writings and usually at least once on every page of English script or writing.
