I just got home from the VA and was behind a pickup with a shell.  The shell was covered rear and sides with political stickers. He had a military. license plate frame , apparently proud of his service.  Great!  So am I.

Now, I don't care what you believe or don't believe.  That's none of my business, even if I think you are as crazy as the March Hare, but here's my issue:

This guy was a raging conservative and I agree with much what he had posted and his messages of support for right wing values and people.

The problem was  his stickers that were against those he didn't agree with  Most were rude, profane beyond what I have seen in barracks and bars, and offensive to even me.  Again, while I don't approve of it and defend his right to express himself, but there is one thing I cannot approve of , condone or support:

We have a huge number of people in this country, citizens and foreigners, who have a view of right-wingers, especially gun owners, as rude, crude, profane, angry, potentially violent, radicals who should be removed from the planet.  They attack us with lies, and mis-information, openly insulting our peopel and even charging many  with ridiculous crimes and legal actions.

Knowing this, why aren't we enraged at those few, of our greater population of conservatives, who are giving them the ammunition to use against us, to show the world that we are exactly as the lefties say we are.  Why don't we openly condemn this sort of behavior from our own that are painting us as a group of violently insane radicals that are a danger to everyone else.

I don't know what to do to end it other than condemning the acts as a group.  Of course it will be difficult, might cause hard feelings, and even make enemies.  It will also meaning that we, you and I, will have to get off our butts and DO SOMETHING, even though it won't be easy.

For years I wrote six letters a week to politicians, TV sponsors, activist groups, everyone I could think of, stating my feelings and beliefs.  I got very few responses, mostly from someone in a conservative politician's office...and Dianne Feinstein's office.

It was futile because no one else seemed to be writing letters.

My point exactly.

Yeah. but this kind of jackass is dragging all the more sensible  people down and I don't know how to stop it or combat the effects.

I think that the best that we can hope for is that anybody with any sense at all will look at a car absolutely covered with stickers of any kind and figure that the guy is a nut and ignore him.

Broncos drink Bud Lite.  A sticker on a Jeep.

If I wanted to go fast I wouldn’t be driving a Jeep.  Another sticker on a Jeep.

I saw one a couple of days ago.  Little car with stickers all over the back to the effect of be kind.  All kindness type stickers; no foul language. But this guy was driving like a maniac. A strange combination.

Ignoring it doesn't solve the problem.  That IS a major part of the problem.

WE ignore him.  The anti-civil rights advocates point to him and say, "SEE!?!?!  All conservatives are violent, uneducated  ultrarightwingnaziMAGAviolentracistnazihomophobecristiannationalists!"

How often have we seen at gun shows or conservative rallies the newsies interview the ONE 400 pound 4th grade dropout, with a too short grimy T-shirt emblazoned with Confederate flags or swastikas, goad him into saying stupid garbage, and paint him as the "typical" gun owner?

I don't understand the compulsion for crude, vulgar, violent, or obscene comments.  OK, crude, that's maybe understandable, but not the rest.

I'll click on a video, agree with the basic message, but the guy uses "the eff word" like punctuation.  Sorry, but it doesn't make you sound tough, or manly, or whatever you think it does.  It makes you sound tough.  It makes you sound like the leftist cartoon of what conservatives are.
Problem is, if you try to point it out, you get their invective directed at yourself.

Re: calling our "representatives."  I've been told, both over the phone and in writing, that I may as well not bother trying to make my views known.  The O, So Honorable Elected Representative knows what is best for the peasants and neither needs nor wants any opposing views.  I got that from two different members of the Assembly, two different California State Senators, one member of the House, and one US Senator. Surprisingly, the one that didn't send me such a message was the late and unlamented Sen. Dianne Feinstein.  At worst, I got the polite version of "Eff off!" with the "Well, we will just have to agree to disagree on this."  That I will give her - in spite of her warped political views, she was of the Old School, where you could tear into each other on the floor of debate, but then have polite conversation over dinner.

Quit worrying about what the 'other' side thinks. We KNOW what they want.

I saw a sticker one time that said something to the effect of the greater amount of stickers a vehicle has, the lower the IQ of the owner............

Unfortunately, people are going to believe what they wish, regardless of reality.  My sister believes I'm a right wing troglodyte who does nothing more than spew anti left hate and works at destroying the environment, supporting big business and killing all the animals.  If she had bothered to spend more than 10 seconds with me, she would see I'm not like that at all.  My actions don't fit her preconceived narrative so she ignores them.  Hence, I ignore her.  A lot of people both left and right are like that.  You will not change their minds.  We have to pray their narrow mindedness dies off with them.

I don't think that anyone's saying that he can't say what he wants, but doing so might make him look stupid. Like the old saying:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"

Dangerous and short-sighted attitude.
We forget it isn't either/or, but that only about 10% to 15% of the people ADDED: ON EITHER SIDE have strong opinions. That means 70% to 80% can be swayed one way or the other.  And, unfortunately for us, the vocal and active 15% against us have power far beyond their numbers..  They have the heavy artillery of Big Corporate Press and most of the entertainment industry, and both of those are masters of emotional manipulation. We constantly whine and moan about how "the media" or "the movies" show us in a bad light.  We don't need to give them any ammo to use against us.

Start with the thread where people are cheering the moron who "patrolled" his front yard with a shotgun across the street from an elementary school during school hours.  Years and a federal indictment later, he has learned nothing and it took a federal circuit court to overturn his felony conviction to teach us what we all knew already: he had a right to do it, but he's still a moron for thinking that was a responsible exercise of his rights.

And now there is precedence.

He had the right and if he didn't fight over reach none of us would.

Moron or hero?

Rights not exercised are rights soon lost

I see cars & trucks laden with stickers that belong to people on both sides of the political spectrum. That’s their business and their right.

Then the same goes for rude bumper stickers.

Moron and hero are not mutually exclusive btw.

Get this! I had a K-State plate on the front bumper of my truck and when I attended a KU vs K-State game in Lawrence, I discovered my plate was gone after  the game! We can despise Iowa State and Farmagedden and hate Oklahoma but those Hayjocks are the worst of our enimies ! 😠

But the worst for me was when I took my daughters car for an oil change and sitting at a traffic stop a biker dude pulled up and said " so you love your sailor!"

I said what? He pointed to the decal in the window. It said " I love my sailor." I told him this was my daughters car. He laughed and said sure it was.🤪😠

I'm not putting down their rights to have beliefs other than mine.  I am condemning their assault on my right not to have to be forced to see or hear their profanity, verbal attacks on me and my beliefs, and open threats, lies, and my rights to my way of life.

The gentleman was being stalked!! Subsequent to the incident, the stalker was finally arrested and convicted!

The man was well within his rights to protect himself and his family and property and because of those circumstances and due to his following the advice of local government AND law enforcement, he was singled out for persecution/prosecution!!

By all rights, if he is/was precluded from protecting himself under the law in question, he should be provided with ample security and given protection by the entities that prohibit him from doing so!!

This is a bad example for the argument/discussion here.

How about a defensive sticker?

IMG_3988.jpeg

Simply my opinion of course. But this appears to be saying to all and sundry - the guy that drives me carries a gun. If you see me parked near a police station or a courthouse or a school or any of the other places where it's illegal for him to take his gun, there's a real good chance it's inside here. Break in and look.

That's why I don't have protected by Smith & Wesson, or NRA life member, or Single Action Shooting Society stickers on my vehicles.

Many years ago I took my daughter shopping. And as we get out of the truck she puts her purse down in the floorboards. I told her to take it with her. She said there was nothing of value in it. I told her the guy that was going to break my truck window to get it was not aware that there was nothing worth stealing in it. And if she carried it with her then the parking lot creeper would not see it in the truck and break my window.

Where is that right enumerated? The right to not be offended or challenged in your beliefs doesn't exist and is one of the biggest logical failures of statists arguments. I shouldt be exposed to that followed by there ought be a law followed by another right restricted.

My pa always used to say if you don't like it don't look

Now now Pat. He didn't specify. Maybe his daughter's car is a pink Volkswagen Jetta.

That might draw a comment.

And you have no right to privacy, either, Tex. If you believe you do have SHOW ME!  What will you do to fight that invasion?

By your reasoning anyone can go right up to your property line and take pictures (or do it in any public place) and postthem all over the world via the internet with any message they want, even posting you name, address, and other info, and you can't do anything about it.

You can go to jail for shooting down a drone hovering in you back yard.

Get real.

Yep that's the law as written.  Seems a lot of police don't understand that either.

If you want privacy you gotta move far out.

Hell zillow has a pic and value of my house listed.

As long as what they post is true and nondefamatory why do I care?

Might not be able to shoot a drone but the label says it's got to accept any interference from legit comm gear.  Wonder how amped up ham gear treats a drone? I know it puts out enough juice to make a flourescent light glow.

Just answered your own question.  "True and nondefamatory."

And 99% or more of the people in this country don'r have ham gear.

I'm done with this.  Too many people have missed the point and not enough have been effected by it enough to give a damn.

That's exactly what courts have said.

Now, if what they say is untrue, you have recourse under libel laws. If it can be proven to be stalking, harassment. Intimidation,  extortion,  or other harmful activity, you can try to have them prosecuted under those laws.

Drones are considered aircraft, and shooting at aircraft is illegal. Personally,  I would like to see some kind of size classification,  sport, vs Law Enforcement,  vs commercial,  but with drones getting smaller and smaller,  and being used for more and more legitimate uses,  I can't see any practical way to do that. E.g. police use a drone to follow a suspect,  power companies using drones to inspect transmission and distribution lines.

I see no way for the person on the ground to differentiate between a legitimate use or Peeping Tom.
