It is with a very heavy and deeply sorrowful heart that I'm informing the SASS community that Marshal Jack Murphy, (John Brewer) Jedi 336, crossed the river in to a better territory free of rustles, thieves, and killers the morning of September 15. The Marshal was a part of SASS for the past 25 years and the people of SASS was his family. He was honored to be a part of the Jedi Gunfighters and was ushered in to the Jedi ranks at the 2023 Adobe Wall shoot just a couple hours after being told he had cancer. He talked about the honor all the way back to the hotel with no mention of the cancer diagnosis.

Over the past two years the Marshal has endured multiple surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments, while continuing to shoot as many matches that he could while smiling and enjoying the people. Although he had been told he had terminal cancer his "Never give up" attitude and actions kept him going until he could walk the trail no more.

Marshal Jack Murphy was everybody's friend and my best friend, brother-in-law, and shooting partner for the past 50 years. I will truly miss his presence in my life. Rest well brother. Rest well.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Jack a little over eight years. I can honestly say that we didn’t always agree on everything. But we always agreed that we were having fun at this game. Jack is the kind of Man that always planted more than he reaped.  he always gave more than he took, and he left a legacy for the world of cowboy action to behold. Behind the curtain. Jack kept many SASS clubs in the Colorado in Wyoming area up and running. Websites, scoring, running poses and helping in organizing monthly and annual shoots. He was always willing to help all and give all to any in need. The last few months I watched him shoot in pain and agony. Some days, barely able to stand and finish a six stage monthly match. But I never saw him frown, never heard much complaining and always saw him smile at everyone. Jack lived this game to the fullest and set an example of for all to strive for. You will be missed my friend. We’ll see you someday in heaven and we’ll all shoot clean matches there.

Yeah, it'll be strange not seeing Marshal Jack. Belle and I shot with him for many years.

Spades and Oak Creek....... Y'all posted a good and worthy tribute to a great, COURAGEOUS Cowboy.

He was obviously a 'cut above' and rode tall in the saddle.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends and his brother in law, Spades.

Thanks again for posting a worthy tribute to a fellow SASS member and JEDI GF.

God Bless
