Alpo Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I never watched it when it was on. We only got one TV station in my town, so I missed a lot of shows when I was growing up. I've seen maybe four or five episodes. I've seen a lot of clips, but not a lot of real shows. I'm watching this YouTube short - "10 things you didn't know about Lost in Space". One of them was that Guy Williams - the captain - was a real life fencing expert, and often choreographed his own scenes. Huh? Did they have a lot of sword fights in Lost in Space? He played Zorro in the Disney Zorro, so I see where being a fencing expert would come in handy there. But Lost in Space?

H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 There were two episodes that I can think of off the top of my head where he got to use his swordsmanship skills, both in the first (and best) season. (The one in black and white.) In one of them, he get's into a sword fight with the guy who played Kang on Star Trek, Michael Ansara., as part of a contest between their sons. (It makes sense in context) The other was the first season finally where the ghost of an alien dictator has sort of taken over his body and he uses a sword to fight with Major West. Both scenes are very well choreographed.
Texas Lizard Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 Don't know about the sword fights..But always had a washing machine.. Texas Lizard
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I would imagine a trained swordsman would be able to choreograph a regular fight scene as well as a sword fight.

You don't wonder about it enough to look it up. But you wonder about it. Michael Ansara played the Blue Djinn, on I Dream of Jeannie. He was also Barbara Eden's husband. So I wonder if he got the role of the Blue Djinn because he was married to the star - nepotism? Or did they meet on the show, fall in love and get married? Which came first - the show or the couple? Like I say - I'm not curious enough to look it up. I'm sure that if I did a wiki search on either one of them it would give me a date of when they got married and also a date of when the show started and it would be simply comparing the dates. But I'm not that interested. I suspect, as I think about it, that they were married before the show, because during the first season Barbara was pregnant. That's why Jeannie wore that long pink scarf all the time - to hide the belly.
Stump Water Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 Ansara & Eden were married in '58. Jeannie aired in '65.
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 Since we are letting minds wander a bit.... I gotta say the correct answer is Samantha in the Genie or Samantha query.
Three Foot Johnson Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I don't recall it in Lost in Space, but they did it several times in Star Trek TOS and TNG - "The Naked Time", "Bread and Circuses", "Hollow Pursuits", "We'll Always Have Paris", "Tapestry", "Heroes and Demons", "Day of the Dove"... if you count the Bat'leth as a sword, there are plenty more.

Here's one for you, Shatner was trained in Fencing. Though he didn't do any on "Trek", a series he did later, "The Barbary Coast", he did so, along with Doug McClure. And don't forget, on "Firefly", Mal got into a sword fight.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 Uh, Williams was in a LOT of things that had nothing to do with Lost In Space.
Pat Riot Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 Perhaps the episodes with sword play were lost in space. I’ll show myself out now…
