Applied for a Carry Permit

Today marks a watershed moment for me.  After living my entire life in far left states, with the exception of a brief bit of time in college, I have applied for a carry permit.  While I don't need it here in ID as we have true Constitutional Carry, I have to travel some for work and reciprocity is valid in those states.  I also now have insurance to cover the legal costs if I actually need to use deadly force, and I very much hope that never happens, but it's best to be prepared.  Now I wait for the background checks to run through, I am not expecting any surprises.

Oh, as we were getting ready to go to the sheriff's office, wife was getting her carry gun ready.  It's not permitted to carry into the sheriff's office.  Her response to that was "that's really dumb" .  

 

Now, anyone got a solid suggestion for a lock box for the car?  All the ones I've found are way too lightweight or easy to defeat.

I put a gun safe in my console of  my truck but bought two of the StopBoxes since they had a great promotion going on them. Buy one get one free. I got the cable strap that goes with it. It is a hard plastic but appears to be pretty durable. I gave one to my daughter so she can lock her gun up in her Jeep. So far no issues. The cable could be cut with bolt cutters but that is going to be the truth with and cable secured box, I think it would take a while for them to pry it open but I guess it is possible.

Check the laws in ID and any states you plan to travel to for allowed storage options.

 

One "gotcha" might be a locked console is legal for storage when leaving a firearm in the vehicle but not legal when driving (though it can be properly holstered on your body). Your wife will consider this also really dumb, and she will be right.

Strong preference for one that is bolted to the car.  The cables are easily defeated and the thief leaves with the box and can open at their leisure.

I understand the Carry permit need even here in SD I have one , Just a basic one not the taught enhanced . 
 Why well in SD if you have a CCW , The Feds accept this instead of having to wait for a Proceed when you Purchase, Basically fill out the form and pay and leave.

I have US Law Shield, it started out as Texas Law Shield and has now gone US wide. I have had it for about 10 years and glad I have never had to use it. I have called them a few times for legal questions and they have been very courteous and answered all my questions.

 

Update: forgot to mention they do put on seminars occasionally and I have attended them when in my area.

The Stop Box cases do have the capability to be bolted down to the floor board as well. They are made to bolt to a table top or use the cable to strap to a permanent leg.

Before you buy any safe do a search on reviews for that safe or lock box but also look up the safe on YouTube to see if any dipsh**s have made videos on how to easily defeat them. 
Guys that do this crap need to be (this portion censored due it’s graphic and violent nature) 

 

Insurance: I use USCCA. I think I hVe the Platinum plan.

This is the same one I have, but we went with Gold.  There was no change in ins benefits with paying more.

They (RSCs, Residential Security Cabinets) are all easy to defeat, the main benefit is to have signs of forcible entry for police reports and insurance claims. As to the dish**ts, to use your spelling, pay attention those who can open them without showing signs of forcible entry.

 

Demonstrating entry without damage, while it shares a vulnerability with those who might exploit it, also shares it with us to avoid those products.

I went with platinum for the extra training. I was going to switch to gold this year but they offered me platinum at gold’s price without me going a thing. I’m happy with it.

It’s hard to find a reliable safe because of what I said above. They don’t do it as a public service. They do it to make money on YouTube.

Sadly my car is a year too old for a lot of the good ones.  I'll figure something out eventually.
