Good Morning:

A new cap gun shooter asked me how to open the area of his 1858 Remmie to make capping easier.
I remember that when I was shooting Remmies, I opened the capping area around the nipples with a dremel tool.

It was popular then, among Remmie shooters.
I used to have before & after pictures to show the difference, but I don't have them anymore.
Anybody have these pictures, so I can pass them on to him?

Thanks in advance.

The capper that Polish Cappers sells over in the merchant corner will work with unmodified Remingtons as well as ROAs and Colt clones. I use them on all my C&B pistols and prefer them to snail cappers

I shot Remmies for 12 years. I used a Ted Nash capper and never had to do anything to the cylinder.

Is that Ted Cash's brother? :)  Is it the snail type?  I have yet to shoot my '58's with the percussion cylinders.

The '58's will work with the Cash INLINE capper without modification but, to use the snail capper, you have to modify it with an endmill or something else. I have a pair that have been done with an endmill.

Last two inline cappers I had got used for target practice.  Both ended up with a cap wedged inside.

They will work fine with anything except Remington #10 caps. The #10s are taller than any other cap and eventually one will get stuck. I love my fingers too much to fiddle with live caps stuck inside a flimsy piece of brass.

YMMV

My Cash in-line capper is made of steel (or something like it) and is not flexible. Don't know anything about the brass capper. I don't use #10 Remington caps, I use #11 CCI's.
