Alpo Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 You ever show yours to anyone? Book I'm reading, they need some fake ID. They get a driver's license and a social security card. The driver's license makes sense. You show your driver's license for ID all the time. But the social security card? I've had one since the 9th grade. I don't think I've ever showed it to anybody. I've written the number down a lot of places - employment applications, bank applications. But I've never shown it to anyone. Heck, my card says right on it NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES.
Texas Joker Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 I9 for employment records require 1 thing from column 1 ie a passport or 1 each from columns 2 and 3 ie DL and SS card or birth cert. Easier to fake a SS card
Matthew Duncan Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 No I haven’t and I don’t carry with ne neither.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Haven’t had one for at least 40 years.
Cypress Sun Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Yes, once to renew my DL to the "real id" license.

Looked at the SS card, wondered why I carried it. It was my original from around 1973. Long before they were automatically issued to babies. It had the same message on it. I put it "somewhere safe." I got a new one earlier this year. It doesn't have that on it. (Oh, lordy! Where did I put my new one?)

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 My college used it as our ID which is why I have mine memorized.

You would have a test, then go to the classroom later and on the door of the classroom would be a list. Everybody by social security number giving their grade. Not your name - your social security number.

Not your name - your social security number. University of New Hampshire, and I imagine others, allow a student to use a non- SSN nine digit number because of the potential for identity theft. I forgot what my fake no. is but I used it the recent times that I took courses. (NH resident seniors can take classes for a minimal fee. )
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Mine was between 1973 and 1978, don’t believe they are allowed to do that now.

And for some reason this one day the conversation came around to social security numbers. And he said they had given him one. Back then I assumed he meant that the government had issued him a number when he came into the country. Which really makes no sense. More likely the college issued him a number because he needed a nine digit number for identification purposes. But he told us that his social security number was 000-00-0001.
watab kid Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 no - i dont , i show whats required at the doctors office but as far as anyone else goes - they can be happy with a drivers license if needed - after all this state issues those to everyone - even illegal's , and registers them to vote as they issue it
Rip Snorter Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 And it was never intended to be I.D. or "citizen number". A fine example of mission creep!

And a couple weeks after the election I get a letter from the supervisor of elections. Said they counted my vote, but that my signature on my mail-in vote did not look like my signature on their copy of my voter registration card, and they wanted me to come down and resign. My signature now looks a whole lot different than it did when I was 18. But at least if I did a mail in vote today the signatures would match.
