Diamond Jake Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Does anyone have pics of the long range side match at Land Run? I looked through pics from a few past matches and didn't see any. I'm considering bringing my Sharps to this year's Land Run, but with all that's going on I may just stick with Cowboy. But any pics of the facility of the silhouette range might help me decide. Quote
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Bring your Sharps. The shooting line is slightly elevated, covered with good shooting benches. The targets at 200-yds fall when hit and are reset remotely. I don't remember the 300-yd targets. If you skip the event, you will regret it. 1 Quote
Totes Magoats Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Not a great pic, but they have these shooting station built in or you can choose to sit on a stool or prone. 1 Quote
Diamond Jake Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 Are cross sticks provided? Can you show up to shoot your classes anytime between 9 and 2? I signed up for a warmup match 10:30 t0 12:30, so I'd have to either skip the warmup or really hustle between the ranges. At our monthly and state matches we only have a 200 yard range, but I'm getting pretty good at them. I'll have to find a place to practice 300 meters. 1 Quote

Just getting into it so not sure what the setup is. Our local range is 200 yards or 400 with scopes. I need to get my new rifle setup and sighted in. This is all new to me. TM Quote

You have to knock the pig over. They have a pneumatic reset system. Pretty cool! Two smokeless & BP. You can shoot both. Lever action rifles shoot Rams at 200 meters. we had a practice session this miring at our range in George West Tx. Set targets at same distances 😃 2 Quote

I see it is timed for 10 minutes so wasn't sure if you only got 10 shots or you shot until the time was up. TM Quote

If you miss you skip that target and go on to next one 1 Quote

If you miss you skip that target and go on to next one Thanks, So the swinger target are the two sighters you are talking about. Correct? Got this off there web site. So it looks like I could shoot my lever 45-70 and my single shot 45-70 if I wanted. Overall Rules Shooter may stand, sit on ground or stool, or be prone on ground or platform. Cross sticks are allowed. Spotters are allowed. You may bring your own, or the T.O./Spotter will give direction if asked (they will not be held responsible for their calls, final decision is the shooter’s). The top shooter will be the one with the most hits, with time serving as a tiebreaker. Rifle Caliber Lever Action – Smokeless & Black Powder All targets are at 200 meters Target size is 26″ tall x 32″ wide (IHMSA rams) Each shooter has 10 minutes to complete the course: 2 sighters on swinger target When ready say the line “Boomers” At the beep, engage 10 targets in a sweep from either direction Targets must fall to be scored as a hit and targets shot out of order are a miss Rifle Caliber Single Shot – Smokeless & Black Powder All targets are at 300 meters Target size is 14″ tall x 22″ wide (IHMSA pigs) Each shooter has 10 minutes to complete the course: 2 sighters on swinger target When ready say the line “Boomers” At the beep, engage 10 targets in a sweep from either direction Targets must fall to be scored as a hit and targets shot out of order are a miss TM Quote

Diamond Jake Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 I got a clarification straight from the Oklahoma Territorial Marshals. You can shoot both Smokeless and black powder classes with the same rifle, but you can't shoot Black Powder in the smokeless class. That might seem obvious to you, but here in the Southeast we often allow Black Powder in the Smokeless classes, just like Black Powder is allowed in the non-Frontier Cartridge cowboy categories. No big deal, you just have to work up two loads and know how to change the sight settings when switching from one to another. I plan to get to the range in the next week or two and work on some loads. Yee-Haw! 3 Quote
