My state of Ohio says Swenson, hmmm never had one and never went to a Swenson’s. It’s an old fashioned car hop place. You get visited by a car hop and they bring it out to you! Uh….no thanks,🙄

There is one right down the street from me. They do make great burgers. When my son lived in Virginia I'd take a dozen down for him and his wife, she said even day old was better than anything they could get in Norfolk. Whats wrong with a car hop? They also have food trucks. Not a big fan of the Galley boy, make mine a double cheese burger.

Nothing wrong with car hops I guess but it’s a lot easier to go through the drive thru!🙄

Too friggin hot for the car hop experience for me.

Don't like sweating while trying to eat an overpriced cheeseburger.

The only car hops around here are at a Swensons and I’ve seen a few, nothing to look at and there’s some guys too. It’s not like the old days with hot looking car hops, a few places had em on roller skates! ❤️

I not only never heard of the restaurant in Florida, I never heard of the town. Looked it up. It's in the Keys. Spread out over three islands.

But while reading Florida I saw the Georgia one. Georgia is a little burger joint in the town of Dunwoody, which is a suburb of Atlanta. And it says, ignoring the description of the burger completely

>caramelized perfection before topping it with pickles, mustard, a secret house “sassy sauce” and cheese, then serves it on a soft Martin’s roll.

And has a picture. Does this look like the burger is on a hamburger bun or does this look like the burger is on waffle cut french fries?

Or maybe just on a waffle?

Looks like a pain to eat.

I get a kick out of these lists.  Look at 5 of them and I don't think there would be any showing up on more than 1 list.

And almost every one is some 18 inch tall, dripping oil like a radial engine,  and impossible to eat without taking it apart.

yup, never heard of the California one... an apparently I am only 16 miles from there.  Much prefer a burger i cook on my own BBQ, and stacked with fresh cut onions, fresh tomato slice, fresh lettuce (notice I prefer fresh to "been sitting in a hot restaurant kitchen all day"), and enough condiments (whatever I feel like on that day, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, 1000 island dressing, whatever) to add to the flavor but not so much they end up dripping down my arms and all over the place.

The mentions of car hops harkens me back to one afternoon some 50+ years ago.  Pleasantly warm afternoon, cruising along with the top down when I decided that a burger and shake would be right fine, so I pulled my li'l Triumph "Belchfire" (Spitfire) into an A&W burger joint in San Leandro.

Shortly, a really cute young thing comes zipping out on her roller skates and takes my order.  Maybe ten minutes later she returns with the "window tray" filled with goodies.  As I was paying her, she smiled and said "Wow!  I've never waited on a topless car before!"

Well, not being one to overthink before engaging my voice, I smiled back and made the pointed observation "That's 'cuz your not a topless waitress!"

I was amazed at how flustered she got.  I never knew that roller skates could leave skid marks!

This is such as subjective topic that it's hardly even worth looking at the list.  I just checked out the Nevada outfit and while I know they have good food the burger listed is an abomination in my eyes.  If I want a pile of smoked brisket on my plate I'll just some brisket, NOT on my burger.

Jimmy Buffet had it right with his Cheeseburger in Paradise.  Simple and traditional is always best for me.  Just went to GR in Vegas and while it was good, it was hardly worth the money they charge for their burgers.

If you want upscale Peter Luggers has a burger they make out f their aged porterhouse trimmings that will make you slap your momma.

In Florida, Le Tub in Hollywood has one of the best true charcoal grilled Cheeseburgers in the world, as long as you can put up with their shitty service and wait times, it's worth a visit.  Was one of my favorite hangouts when I lived there especially when I found out I could dock my boat and have the food brought to me on the water.

And in Las Vegas if you want something good and just slightly different with an oriental twist try Fukuburger.  Everyone I've brought there has become a huge fan.

I do two burgers that, for me, outdo any burger that I have ever bought.

The first one is done with finely chopped onions kneeded into the ground beef, two patties pressed out thin, and a patty of chorizo and a slice of cheese sandwiched between the two beef patties and sealed up around the edges!!  Sear ‘em on the griddle, flip them ONLY ONCE and gently press ‘em without splitting them open. It’s served on a warm Kaiser roll with tomato and hot/spicy kosher dill pickle and a smear of Japanese mayo.

The other burger is made with ground beef, chorizo, minced onion and Romano cheese all thoroughly mixed and formed into about a third pound patty.  I sear the patties quickly on cast iron in bacon grease and then slow grill them. Only flipping them one time!

These, I serve on toasted and buttered Texas toast with horseradish sauce, jalapeno slices, thick sliced bacon, thin slices of tomato, and slices of American, pepper jack, and Swiss cheese!

The best burger I ever bought was at a place in Murfreesboro, TN many years ago. The place was The Rebel Made Drive In and they made a really simple, quarter pound square patty burger with two slices of cheese and tomato, onion, pickles, and your choice of condiments.  Something about that sandwich that I have never tasted again.

The place closed years ago and old curmudgeons like me STILL remember it fondly!!

There hasn't been a "best cheeseburger" around here ever since the mid 80's IMO. The best burger/cheeseburger used to be at a restaurant called Chief Charlies. It was a steak house type restaurant and the steaks were great...but their cheeseburgers were exceptional.

Hmmm…I went through the entire list and I have lived in and driven a lot of states and I haven’t been to any of the burger places listed for any state I have been to.
The one listed for WV is in Huntington, WV.  That’s 2 hours south of me and the 2 times I have passed through Huntington I had no reason to stop. If I ever do maybe I will drop by Fat Patty’s and see why they have the best burgers in WV.

Edit: This list would make for a great motorcycle trip itinerary. :D

Santa Rosa is littered with upscale local burger joints, some popular enough to have 2 or 3 locations in the area.  People gush over them. Plus 5 Guys, Sonic, In-N-Out, and the usual big chains.

We've tried most of the local joints, and while they all have their own specialty burgers, fresh,  local, seasonal, culinary buzz word of the year, I don't think any really stand up to the hyperbole.

They are good, but not great. And especially not for the premium pricing.

5 Guys?  Way overpriced.

Our favorite commercial is In-N-Out, good price, excellent burgers, fries not so much.  And usually insane wait times because they are so popular. It seems as if as soon as they open there are 20 cars at the drive through and 20 people inside.

Last night I saw that on the Burger King app they had the Whopper on a buy one, get one free. Not a bad deal. It's been years since I bought a Whopper,  usually getting just a burger or Whopper Junior. The full size Whopper is huge! And pretty darned tasty. Order on the app, drive a mile and a half,  pick it up at the drive through.  For a side we've stopped getting fries, unless they're part of a special.   What we do order at BK are their tacos,  2 for $1.99.

But, homemade is best.   80/20 ground beef, or beef that I've run through the grinder on the biggest plate.   Salt, pepper, and Lee&Perrins well mixed and 6 oz formed to fit whatever bread we have.   Or maybe Linton Onion Soup Mix, let it sit for an hour.  Hard sear both sides. Lightly toasted bread with mustard,  catsup,  onion, pickles,  tomato,  and lettuce.  Or just mustard and catsup.
