Who is considered the go to for modifying an skb double?

You'll get different opinions here...mostly based on who does SKB's in the shooters geographical area.  I happen to live in Georgia and over the years Fast Eddie has done 5 SKB's for me.....I've sold 2 of them.  He's done some for a good number of people in the US.....but so have others mentioned above.  SKB's are fine shotguns.....it's good to have an SKB.

I can safely say that Johnny Meadows has been modifying SKB's for at least 15 years (probably longer) since that was when he did my first one.  He's done 3 for me.

Twin, how you been my friend?

I compliment all replies so far.  Sassy and I have a number of SKBs. Most done by Eddie but couple I can certainly brag about from Johnnie. With that said, I would never hesitate recommending Doc Noper knowing of those who had used him for shotguns.

Heard good things about Ken G also. Not sure how much work Johnnie is doing now but since shoot major events with Eddie, I know he is still at it.

Hope all is well.

When I quit shooting, I was still shooting the one Shotgunner did for me 20 years ago.

Figure couple of ours are originals of Shotgunner but took on few repairs since  from Eddie and maybe Dirt Merchant before Eddie.

Not yet getting to much of a mention these days, but when CBeaux has time he is doing some nice work on mastering 73s and SKBs.  Has my new Piettas now for some trigger polishing.

Yeah, I have 2 SG by Shotgunner .  They still run fine 20+ years later. He is sadly long gone.

Was not one of yours one of my original Briley/Shotgunner SKBs?  Maybe the one Longhunter had gotten from me then sold to you.  There is one out there that I even had Briley install choke tubes after cutting down.  An expense I soon learned not needed at all in CAS.

A number of fellows learned a lot from Shotgunner once he announced his retirement.  Goatneck I know had contact with SG'er and perhaps Boomstick.  Dirt did also but did not stay with the SKB smithing long.  He then recommended Eddie.  Johnny had his hands full with lots of western shooters.

Great work by many now, as mentioned, but I still hold Shotgunner as THE MAN.  I have heard of nice work by several smith we do not consider shotgun guys but they can to it.  RCD, Snake Oil, and Lefty Wheeler come to mind.  My buddy CBeaux is learning the SKB quite well now also.

The late Colorado Jackson had gotten a Doc Noper SKB not to long before Covid got him.  He really bragged on it.  Dern I miss CoJac.

All those mentioned. Fast Eddie, Johnny Meadows, Doc Noper. Ken Griner all have excellent reputations. Any will do you right. I got mine from Shotgun Boogie. Hard to imagine it being any better! He puts some of his handmade springs in.
My backup was kinda butchered up, but it works. I don’t know who did it. The mechanical trigger mod in it is really odd, but again, it works!
but I’ve gotta say, mt Shotgun Boogie is just slicker than snot on a door knob!

Billy, yes I still have that one.  I had 2 other SKB's by Shotgunner, one of them is now in the possession of Texas Tiger. Great work lasts and finds its way around.

Excellent.  With your expertise & quality work I suspect non-full time is full enough.  See ya at Tumbleweed.

Not that it mattes but I just wanted to make a correction as to who learned the SKB expertise from Shotgunner and then taught Fast Eddie.  Not sure why I first said Dewey Cheatem but it was Dirt Merchant.  (you owe me Dewey). Shotgunner taught Dirt then when his hands just could not do it sufficiently (to many big handgun rounds) he taught Eddie (both Georgia shooters).   Actually I believe part of my acquaintance to Dirt was our mutual passion for bigbore handguns back in the day.   Apologies for my error.  Blame it to now being 80.  Shotgunner's masterful art is legendary and as per his alias, he was also quite the shotgunner.  I remember just before getting full blown into CAS (around 2000) he had just won a new pickup shooting shotgun competition, clays I believe.

I expanded and edited my response here.

Goatneck Clem was my first shotgun gunsmith that worked a Stoeger for me.

Then Jonny Meadows was/is an outstanding SKB gunsmith, I bought an SKB from Dirt Merchant, and then Fast Eddie and Roughneck Rod built a few for me.    Then Lefty Wheeler came along and is my current Champion maker of SKB's.  I guess, I kinda hedge my bets on each SKB, for at sometime, the SKB will be worn to needing replacement parts ( that may or may not exist).  The newest SKB gunsmith for me, and he just built one for me, is Brad Finch up in Amarillo,TX.  All of them do and did outstanding work.  I have my favorite winning SKB 200E's from all of them.  Twill be with me, til my son or grandson gets it .  Unless the Tom Mix Museum, in Dewey Oklahoma comes callin.  :FlagAm::D

Good read. Ironically Rod also learned from Dirt/SG. Brad is very good. Son of Longhunter.

Fast Eddie without hesitation. I shoot Fast Eddie SKBs and am the only “authorized” Fast Eddie “dealer”… meaning, I’m the drop-off/pick up at matches! 😉

Hugs!

Scarlett

PS. Fast Eddie now offers a “hold open” feature so that it will stay open when carrying etc. really like it!
