So what if CAS disappeared? What other shooting sports would you do or are you a cowboy shooter only? I do a Rimfire Challenge every month, all .22’s it’s fun! At the same club, Firelands (Rochester rod and gun club) they’re starting a John Wick shoot. Set up like a cowboy shoot but with modern weapons, semi autos, DA Revolvers, pistol caliber carbines or lever actions, pump or semi auto shotguns. I’m looking forward to that. I haven’t done trap and skeet for a long time but I would get back into that as well.
I know CAS is not going away any time soon but just a thought. Would you keep your cowboy gear?

I would consider .22 rimfire of some sort.

Maybe IDPA or variation.  I shoot a lot of 10mm, 45 Super, 460 Roland, and a little .44 Mag, 460 Mag and 500 Mag.

I wouldn't want to be restricted to 9mm or just .45 ACP.

..........Widder

What I already shoot:  skeet, trap, sporting clays, falling plate matches.

I shoot skeet every Sunday unless the weather is really bad.  If I was motivated enough and had more money, I could probably shoot one or both days every weekend and sometimes matches in the evening during the week.

One of the few advantages to living in CT is that most of the state is within an hour's drive from where I live.

What’s falling plate matches? Never heard of that.

We had a little group, 8 or 10 guys that would get together at a range on private property belonging to one of the group.  Had various kinds of informal matches, some memorable - a Night match, Halloween, Card Cutting, fully loading the 97s and a slam firing course and others I can't recall.  No money or formal membership involved, and other than safety, few rules.  Sometimes just setting up a couple of rearrangements of targets and running them.   Fun for all, and not a great deal of work.   I suppose that was an  unusual situation and group.  It lasted for several years, then I relocated, recollection is that it was fading at that point in time.  There was also a Bullseye League at a local range, occasional pin shoots, and other gun sports.  There is something in most places.

Now that I’m getting healthy again, I’d probably just go back to riding my motorcycle more and spend my cowboy money on my hotrods!

I started CAS as a stress reliever!  It was my “pop off valve” to let me decompress, but also to be among folks that I can share with.

The bike does the same thing, but it’s more of a solo thing for me when I’ve had enough of people for a while.

Hotrodding is one of my creative outlets. I can bang around on some metal and turn it into something that represents my attitude and style.

Then there’s music!

IT AIN’T LIKE I GOT NOTHIN’ TA’ DO!!

Idunno! Maybe guerilla warfare? 🤪🤪🤣

I thought that's what it was. You're shooting steel. But they are round, about 8 or 10 inches in diameter - size of a dinner plate. They are sitting up on edge. You shoot them and knock them down. Quickly

Oh okay, we have one of those we use at the cowboy match.

You may know it as a plate rack.  5 or 6 round 8" plates, usually set at about 10 yards, fastest person to knock all the plates own first wins.

Yea I get it, there’s lots of hobbies other than shooting but I was wondering what other SHOOTING SPORT you would do.

Steel Challenge (22 pistol and rifle, and some centerfire handguns, depending on mood), "Metal Madness" (mix of rimfire sports), IDPA, BUG, 3 Gun often with AK rifle, and AK sports, "Gunzerker" matches. sporting clays, ...

As an FYI, cowboy guns can be shot at Steel Challenge according to the rules, but call ahead as it takes a while to load revolvers for 5 strings. Cowboy dress appreciated.

We use one of those at a cowboy shoot for one stage sometimes.

Same thing I'm doing now: hunt, fish, work on my property. Shoot my steel once in a while. Grill venison while having a wee nip of bourbon.

I would probably go back to just spending time at a local range.  Never cared for trap/skeet and IPSC and IDPA just aren’t what I want to get into.

I might look into some kind of long range, but I don’t think it would give me what Cowboy Action does.

In the winter I go to the indoor range once a week and there’s an indoor Cowboy shoot about an hour away once a month if the weather is okay to drive that far. This is Ohio!😂

I stopped matches when prostate cancer, cardiac bypass took over.  Then COVID came along.  Been one thing after another.

Now I practice every week at my local indoor range.  Single target is not CAS but suffices.

Won’t sell anything as I would not be able to replace it ever again.  My heirs are gonna hate me.

True but I don’t think I could afford to feed a Barret! .50 cal is expensive even if you reload!

I have one, and they are fun. Glad I bought all the 50BMG ammo a few years ago when it was somewhat cheaper.

Since I stopped CAS I actually think I shoot more now, just not in matches or competitions except for .22 Benchrest. I shoot that once or twice a month.

I tried shotgun sports and turkey shoots. I have zero interest in shotgun sports. It just doesn’t trip my trigger - PI (pun intended)

I think I would enjoy IDPA again if there was a match nearby besides the A’hole rifle club near me. Nearby = <50 miles.

My 'game' these days, is Black Powder Competition Rifle(BPCR).  It's very addictive.

Check it out..... ;)

I just recently rejoined after being absent for a long time and SASS is just fun for me (Thanks SASS for keeping my number!).  I joined originally when I got my first ranch up and running and I wanted to shoot my guns more (and of course find reasons to buy more guns) and I intend to start shooting again this fall but I don't have to buy anything new because all my clothes are stuff I used to wear around my old ranch all the time, and still wear around town when it suits me, and will be wearing again around my next ranch again.  I have more period guns, leather, boots and hats that any human will ever need because I wear them, shoot them all the time.   Just finished putting together my next training headstall last night because wife and I are looking into adopting and training a few mustangs for ourselves and the granddaughters we now have.

My situation is summarized by a story a buddy of mine told me a few years ago.  He "day-cowboys" for a ranch in Wyoming and him and another of the ranch hands were having a beer in the local watering hole after a long day.  This obvious tourist female gets on the bar next to them and tells my buddy's drinking companion, "Nice Cowboy hat!".  He looks at her puzzled and just says "That's a redundant term.".  When she asks what he meant he told her, the hat doesn't make a cowboy, the man makes the hat.  I AM a cowboy so ANY hat that sits on my head is by default a cowboy hat.  So it's just a hat...

A funny one was a while back I went to a SASS shoot and on my way back I stopped at a gas station to fill my truck and get a snack.  As I'm walking around the mini-mart type setup this little kid comes over and looks up at me and asks If I'm a real cowboy.  I said yes, and he then asked me, where is your horse, and I pointed in the direction of my place and said about 5 miles that way.  The kid takes off RUNNING towards the door and mom intercepts him before he can make the hasty exit and mom tell him I was" only joking".  I walked over, smiled and told her that if she wants to show her kid some horses she can follow me and I'll be happy to show him around my barn and pet the horses.  The look in her eyes was priceless! 🤠

I'd dig the 338 Lapua out of the safe and start working on my King of the 2 Mile game and maybe step that up to a 375 CheyTac.

Actually my office is just a spare bedroom in my house so while I've been on conference calls all morning I've been busy replacing the straps on a few of my spurs.  The old ones were kind of ratty looking.

And on the wall behind me, some of my hats, one of my old ropes and a new set of reins I just bought.

Hopefully not in my lifetime, but if it did go away I would sell off everything except my Shotgun Boogie 45 Bisleys, my TTN, one of my 73's and my 97 to fund other shooting sports to participate in.

My wife gave me a Remington 1903-A3 in Arsenal-original condition last year.  I finally have a load worked up that tames recoil and shoots 3-4" groups at 100.  I would get back into DCM/CMP matches.  I was never better-than-average, but I like the history of it.

I'd just go back to being by myself again. I just got started here less than a year ago, so if it just stopped...I would probably just give up trying to find a group to hang out with, just stay online and shoot by myself

When you have no real friends,  that's pretty easy. :D
