Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 I just came in from my garage where I found a black and ivory colored garden snake in a tight ball. I thought it was dead until a stepped a bit closer and saw some movement. It's been hotter than hell and I got a small dab of water and poured it on the floor by the snake. After about fifteen seconds the ball started to unwind and turned out to be a 20 inch snake....with 8 inches of a red and black garden snake sticking out of its mouth....and still wiggling. I left them to the ways of Mothers Nature's critters and I'll go check in a bit to see what happened. I've seen a lot of wondrous things before but never this
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 walked up on a red coachwhip that was maybe 3 or 3 1/2 feet long working on swallowing a big alligator lizard in my driveway a while back. Them things are fast, I couldn't get my phone out quick enough to snap off a shot before it was away into the field next door.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted August 15, 2025 Author Posted August 15, 2025 Gone. I went back out after an hour and found a damp spot but no snakes.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted August 16, 2025 Author Posted August 16, 2025 Did some more checking and found big snake is a variety of king snake, small snake is a milk snake. It also occurred to me the small snake was about 3/4 the size of the big snake. That begs the question of how big a snake's stomach is.
