There's a bunch of big SASS events coming up in the Fall, but we've only got Virginia State listed at the end of this month... then that's it.

I was wondering if y'all want to use this as a handy place to post information, registration forms, links, etc.  Or if we should close the door there?

Though I am no fan of herding cats, LOL, one option is for the Moderator to move all the posts that you mentioned about upcoming events, over to the Events Wire, as is done with other mis-located posts. There will always be a placekeeper thread title in the original Forum, so folks won't miss any information.

I usually try to put our match in it, but it's in June.

Years ago pretty much all the big shoots quit using it and and the SASS office allowed it to happen.  One of the big problems with the events wire is that it put everything in chronological order.  So if you had a big shoot and started advertising early it wound up way back in the events wire.  Killing it would not be a big deal.

Is it the "TAB" adjacent to "FORUMS"?

It should be linked to the "Match Locator" and "Monthly Shooting Schedule" in the Chronicle.

I see

So that means there are four independent locations to learn about events!

Hmmmm

ahhhhhh, correction, i never use it.

I don't use it. There are several reasons.

  • I am interested in events near me, so most of it does not apply
  • The date issue is a problem too, as an event posted well in advance goes down in the list
  • Trying to get posts following the specified title format seems to be about as effective as herding cats
  • Should I get to where I am interested in a state or larger event, there are other places to find this information and make travel plans

I understand there are problems implementing PractiScore, not the least being we use aliases which messes with my account there (under my real name). Still, it is a better way to find matches on a map in a certain time frame. I use it for the other sports I shoot in. The second big problem here (after dealing with aliases) would be getting local clubs on board to post matches on that platform. Can't get many guests if the general sports shooting population (on PractiScore) does not even know about this sport.

 F I V E,

plus the wire, which does have events posted.  So, SIX!!!

I would use it annually to post info for our state match.  I rarely got any comments though.  I preferred to post there rather than the Wire because the post wouldn't roll off the main page in a day.  However, it seems that everyone advertises their match on the Wire these days.
I guess my vote would be to have more use of the Events Wire and less of the SASS Wire for advertising our matches.  It's a great resource to have match info all in one place.

It might be looked at more often if, following an advertised match, the scores were posted there.  That would require both moderators and wire participants to go the extra mile, something that might be too much for most.

And be listed in calendar order!

Let it die.

If the purpose of posting to get attendees - posting in a dusty corner that never sees sunlight doesn't do anything for you.

I ALWAYS used the Wire to advertise my matches because the Wire is where the eyes are.

I tried to keep the posts interesting, informative and entertaining (usually me picking at Gawd Awful, Shooting Bull or Damascus John) but I knew no one would ever see it in the Events forum.

The Wire forum provides the biggest return to the clubs - doesn't harm the Wire or readers in any way (anyone not interested can skip the post) and it is FAR more likely that readers may find shoots and interesting match opportunities by scrolling the Wire rather than making a specific visit to the Events Forum.

I have discovered clubs and matches "by accident" because they were on the Wire - events that I would have NEVER looked at otherwise.

I keep posting Firelands monthly on the Wire. I honestly forgot the Events wire was even there!

I never knew it existed until today.  As many have said, if it were better advertised so people knew it was there it could be a good resource.  I see many matches posted on the wire, but they fall off of the first page within a day or so.  Should the events page be at the top of the forum page?  I wouldn't use it for a monthly match, but I would post our annual match every year.

I tend to appreciate organization so would prefer that all announcements and follow-ups (congrats, etc.) regarding events be placed there and there only.  The Wire has become somewhat of a 'junk drawer' making finding interesting topics fairly nebulous . . . much like the Saloon.  While this change will undoubtedly be met with some resistance, I'm betting everyone would appreciate having one section to visit for all event announcements once they got used to it.

To take this a step further, it'd be nice if we had a section limited to firearms where all related posts could reside.  A one-stop-shop for these would be handy.

As memory serves, I have NEVER referred to it.

Wasted band width??  Well, wasted anyway.

I use it. I also posted our Guns of August shoot on it and it received about a 1000 views.  I also included the app for it.

The Events wire views for Firelands shoot Saturday is up to 62! The Sass Wire views are 32 so apparently people are using it !

I wish more people would use it instead of posting 5-6 pages of BS and bringing a shoot back to the top of the page that’s still several months away on the regular sass wire.

I had no idea that topic even existed. While trying to figure out exactly where this informational page was located, I discovered there is a separate "Browse", then "Events" next to the "Forum" button at the top of webpage (https://forums.sassnet.com/index.php?/events/).  That page which makes it look like you could search by date for an event but returns zero results (at least on my chrome browser) could be eliminated.

Ah, that's where it is.  Thanks for pointing out that extra steps have to be taken to find it.  No wonder it's rarely looked at. Instead of being so well hidden, it should be placed under the SASS Forums category so it would show up on the same entry page as the Wire, Classifieds, etc.

Eliphalet R. Moderato

just wondering if you see any changes based on the comments so far?

It appears that the original forum design had a reasonable plan, thank you Allie Mo.

Better placement on the main forum page and a bit of moderator assistance of encouraging (moving) post to the "Event" site, just might work.
