Rye Miles #13621 Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 I’ve always heard of the benefits of a spoonful of honey daily. https://www.thelist.com/164414/when-you-eat-honey-every-day-this-is-what-really-happens-to-your-body/
Stump Water Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 A co-worker moved from South Dakota, where she had lived for most of her adult life, to NC. The move was in February. Come spring the allergies set in. She was miserable and had trouble breathing. I told her, "You're being exposed to allergens (pollen) that you never have been before. Find some place that sells LOCAL, RAW honey. Eat a spoonful every day." She did. All cleared up in two weeks. I think she's still doing it. Given how miserable she was, she's probably afraid to stop. Raw honey is probably about the best wound dressing there is. Cuts, burns, you name it. Always keep some around.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Yes, since I can remember. On toast, pancakes, waffles, in coffee and tea, and on a lot of breakfast cereals. I even remember it in Ovaltine when you still had to boil it. (I'd love to find those old black crystals of Ovaltine again. Nothing ever tasted just like it and the stuff they sell now under that label is still the best, but not the same.) I remember driving 60 miles each way over to Bear Lake to buy huge tins of honey with the comb still in a lot of it...until Dad found out it was really from a farm just three miles down the road. We'd chew the combs until they had no honey left in them. Sure beats chewing gum. Mom used a lot of honey in her baking and for glazing some meats. I think Mom and Sis used to rub it on their skin but I'm not sure of that.
Cypress Sun Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 I understand that pure honey is the only food that never goes bad.
J-BAR #18287 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Honey is a common source of botulism poisoning in infants and children less than 12 months of age. Older children and adults are less likely to suffer the symptoms of botulism. I like honey and eat it often. I am 81 years old. Do your research and proceed safely.
Wallaby Jack, SASS #44062 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 every morning in my 1/2 litre cup of "morning heart starter" 🥰
Pat Riot Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I met a very pretty woman named Honey once. Blonde, tan skin, green eyes. She even smelled like Honey. She worked at the Mazda dealer where I had my Miata serviced…often. My wife met Honey. I was banned from being around Honey…and that particular dealership.

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 You have great taste. JIF creamy pb and Kerry Gold salted butter. Consumer Reports reported on butters and rate KG #2. I don't recall what #1 was but it cost twice as much, and KG tastes just right to me. It's worth the extra cost. I buy four pound package. About a year ago I went on a quest to try all the different honeys I could find. I got local clover honey, pure Arizona mesquite honey, sourwood honey and a bevy of others......a total of22 jars. I couldn't find a nickel's worth of difference in any of them except one. Maybe my old taste buds are finally going bad, but...... Byrd's Bees 100% raw honey stands out. My daughter lives in Flat Rock NC and found this local honey that is just right. When I run out of the honey a have already....in about five years....I'll have her gather me up few jars to tide me over until I die.
Cypress Sun Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I've never been a honey person but every once in a while I'll have a taste of it. The best honey I've ever had was back in the 60's when much of Florida was a giant orange grove. The honey made from orange grove bees was the best of all. There used to be a local place called Orange Blossom Groves that sold honey, it was pretty good but the best honey was from the no-name bee keepers in Polk County. Boy, that was a long time ago now.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I try to keep local raw honey around all the time. I don’t suffer from seasonal allergies and never have, perhaps because of that. I love sourwood honey! It’s one of my favorites and I try to find the really dark stuff. Forty Rod sent me a jar of mesquite honey and it has a great, strong flavor that goes really well on biscuits straight out of the oven with butter. It’s also great on a peanut butter sandwich!! I also use honey in many of my marinades! A dab in the mix really adds to the flavor of meats that have a good sear on them!! EDIT: I prefer Peter Pan peanut butter. It’s smoother and a little less salty than Jif!
Painted Mohawk SASS 77785 Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 Honey is great, I have a lot !!...'But I've learn't you can overload..so every now & then I cut back for a while...you hear people say too much is no good as it's just like sugar..I say it's natural & your body takes it in differently to sugar..well that's my story & I'm sticking to it !! My sugar & cholestrol are good & always have been...just don't let me near Bees' ..always thought the more you were stung gave you better resistance..well heck that ain't true, dang swell up like a balloon !
Caprock Kid Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 The best thing about honey is you can add water and yeast… and presto change-o you get mead. Probably the easiest thing to home brew.

An example of how Honey can get you hurt! 😄 SB
Pat Riot Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 My wife used to love honey and she would buy local and it did help with pollen allergies. One day she tried some honey from a local vendor and it darn near killed her. She had an allergic reaction and her esophagus neatly closed up. Thankfully a PA at a local clinic acted fast and got her back to normal pretty quick. There hasn’t been honey in our house since. That incident scared her and she doesn’t want to risk that again. For me, honey makes my teeth tingle and not in a good way. Never been a fan…except for my mention of Honey above.

Tommy, one of is very obviously young. Around here, Sourwood has very little color of all.
