My supper last night

Recommended Posts

Posted

I got out a package of Innovasian Orange chicken for my supper.  It's pretty good for a frozen meal but not used very often.  They make a number of other dishes that I use more often.

Anyway, I preheated the oven to 400 degrees, opened the package, dumped the chicken into an oven-safe dish, and put the sauce in warm water to thaw.

I heard the buzzer go off, went in and put the dish in the microwave, and set the timer for 22 minutes, pushed the button and went back to the book I was reading in the living room.

Did you catch that?

Fifteen minutes later I went in to check the meal and found the kitchen full of smoke......and a dish full of chicken nuggets cooked to the consistency of paving stones.   Why the smoke alarm didn't go off is a mystery for later.

I turned the oven off and made myself a grilled cheese sandwich, opened a bottle of sarsaparilla, and read some more.

I'm up and will clean up the mess later.

Decades ago we were hosting Easter dinner with the family. The timer went off on the oven indicating the ham was done. Poor Ellie opened the oven only to discover the ham was still in the refrigerator!! The veggies, salad and potatoes were excellent!!

My friend, you ain't alone, my hand is a-wavin' in the air ...

Testify!

Particular instances omitted out of a wish for brevity and a general feeling of well deserved humiliation!

22 minutes in the microwave? Was that what the directions said? That’s a long time in a microwave 🙄😳

He pre-heated the OVEN and put it in a OVEN-safe dish then put it in the Microwave instead of the oven

Left the baking powder out of biscuits several times. Not quite hardtack, but close.

Set timer on a roast for 1:30 (minute and a half) rather than 1:30:00 (hour and a half).  I like it rarw, but not that rarw.

Uno had surgery some years ago and had put a can of soup on the stove for lunch.  He promptly dozed off and woke when the smoke detector went off.  The cheap aluminum pan had begun to overheat and the bottom had formed in the shape of our gas burner.   After that, I made sure to make heat and eat lunches for him.

I’ve ruined a couple of pans when boiling eggs! I’d fall asleep and woke up and heard popping noises! Luckily I only boiled 4 eggs at a time. I’m very careful now🙄

Quick trick - put the eggs in cold water, bring the water to a boil, shut off the burner and let the eggs sit 15 minutes (or more) Perfect and easier to peel.

When I first met Ellie, she offered to hard boil me some eggs. She cracked them into a pan of water and left them to boil. Had to throw out the pan!

I did pay attention! I realize you retrieved it after 15 minutes but that was too long as well obviously 🙄

Whatever became of Foghorn Leghorn.  Dad hung a picture of him in the hen house "to motivate the hens".   And you wonder where I got my strange streak from.

Hey, I bought a little thingy that holds up to five eggs and boils them (from really soft to hard), poaches them, and makes several other dishes, and is so simple even I can use it.  Cost me about $25.00 IIRC and I use it maybe once  week.

A roommate of mine many years ago came home after a night out at the bars. He lived in a separate little building behind the main house we were renting.  He put a couple of hotdogs in a pan on the stove and passed out. It was unbelievable the amount of smoke that two burning hotdogs could create.
