PowderRiverCowboy Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 Just got this from Midway still on Hodgon site so ???
Cypress Sun Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 Just now discontinued.....after five years of not being available for purchase except for old stock at outrageous prices. Wow, I'm stunned.
Boggus Deal #64218 Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 I believe the two pound jug was discontinued about 15+ years ago.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 I've given up on it and I'm now using 231 and Titegroup. Too bad. I liked it for my large capacity cases.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 My understanding is that it’s made in Australia and that it’s just now starting to appear in stores there. I don’t know anything else. I never used it and have no experience with or opinion of it.
Stump Water Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 2 hours ago, Blackwater 53393 said: My understanding is that it’s made in Australia Says that on Hodgdon's web site. Also doesn't say it's discontinued. Likewise Natchez and Midsouth sites. Sounds like Midway just got tired of dealing with the lack of supply. Can't blame them.
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 I know where there is a bunch , stored away I don't need it , and I do NOT know if it is for sale kinda figure it ain't gonna be cheap CB
Cypress Sun Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 Midway just sent me the same notice about Clays. I had put a "Notify me" for Clays about 3 years ago on Midway. I guess this is their way of clearing their notices out.
Pat Riot Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 Midway shows many products as “Discontinued” that aren’t and are available elsewhere. When they don’t have something in stock for an extended time they call it “discontinued” even though the product may not actually be discontinued. Hodgdon has told me that Univesal powder will be available one day, but Midway calls it discontinued.
Buckshot Bear Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 That's a shame for you pards as large fresh shipments from ADI made it to gunshop in Oz and recently to New Zealand of Trailboss..... Hopefully a shipment is soon enroute to you guys.

How much y’all wanna bet when Trail Boss is released it’ll be in the more conveniently sized 8oz quantities, not that pesky 9oz container.
Buckshot Bear Posted July 11, 2025 Posted July 11, 2025 Also the new Clays (APS350) is back on shelves again as well down here.

I have just stuck with Unique for 99% of my loading for all these years . And that has even been hard to come by so I'm told . I still have about 8pnds of it for now .
Cholla Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 According to a recent FB post Hodgdon hopes to have TB available this fall. Color me jaded.

I heard him (Hodgdon) say that to a group of us a year ago. Not dissing him as their are factors he can’t control, but I’m not buying any time frame. To repeat myself from over the years, when I see it on a shelf, or someone on this forum says they’ve seen it with their own eyes, (not heard about it) I’ll believe it.

I've seen Trailboss......in the 5 lb jug I bought years ago and just opened recently.
WD Farren Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 I was fortunate to find two small bottles before it went out of production then a five pound tub in a private sale.

Rooster, if you have eight pounds of Unique on hand you are wealthy indeed! Long a favorite of mine ~ I hope to live long enough to see its return.

Yeah your right Blackwater on both counts, been available now for maybe 12 months, not heaps around but it's there...prices have skyrocketed..around $120AU per 1 LB
WD Farren Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 Even though I shoot weekly, I'm not reloading for now to avoid squandering my component supplies. Primer prices are FINALLY starting to recede, as primer over production is now forcing lower prices.

I gave it up for a while to work on my daughters new house, my house and cabin, and to fish with my bride. Might shoot my first match of the year next weekend. We,lol see. My ammo stash has been lasting well. Lol
Michigan Slim Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 I would rather have a keg of Red Dot than TRAIL BOSS but it filled a niche very well.
Eyesa Horg Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 Real BP shoots cleaner in my Marlin than Trail Boss did! Same price as other powders for half the quantity too. Just don't see it!
watab kid Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 one day soon all this powder stuff will work out - we may even get to where the reloading is as cheap or cheap[er than factory again , but in all of our cases we reload because factory is not acceptable in our game for the most part - really expensive when it is

I wonder why there was so many of the large kegs available recently of Red Dot down here? Nearly every gun shop had the large kegs in stock of fresh Red Dot.

Pat Riot Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 Well, if a Saloonatic, not a lurker, lives close to me I have 1 bottle of Trail Boss that I will probably never use. Actually it’s a bit more than a 9oz bottle as I had loaded a bunch of .45 Colt with TB then pulled all the bullets and dumped the powder into my remaining bottle of Trail Boss. I live in northern WV.
WD Farren Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 On paper, Red Dot looks very attractive for my specific needs. However, RD is Unobtanium here, plus I am not reloading at this time to preserve my components. I am concerned about having a Dire Need for them in the future.

There will always be a sky falling somewhere. I would load it up and that way you have ammo, not components.

I got a deal and bought enough W231 to keep me going for some time, so I doubt I'll be buying any TB now, even if it becomes available here in the 51 st Canada.
watab kid Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 ive always shot red dot and clays and will shoot them till i have gone through all mine , a good long time i believe , but if i had known this would nbe an issue id have stocked up on tjis as well , i dont think amy or at least very few saw this time coming
Painted Mohawk SASS 77785 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 I'm using a stash of TB that I've had before prices went crazy, yeah it works fine but I reckon it's a long lost cousin to real BP, bloody dirty & there are better powders around but not down -under !!!
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 as to using TB for rifle , I changed over to 5744 , a bit more pressure , and a lot more range my 45-70 TB loads dropped like a rock after 150 yds CB
