Gunner Just Repaired my Original Marlin Carrier on my rifle for me .

And what a beautiful job he does .

And you still have your Original Parts in your gun !

Gunner has done 2 for me. Top notch repair that will never need to be done again.

Bubba Bear,

Is there a particular issue with your current carrier?

If its an older style carrier, is there something wrong with the 'Pivoting' arm?

If its a new style carrier, is there a problem with the 'Plunger Stud' or the 'washer' that is suppose to hold it in place?

Is your Timing Ramp on the bottom of the carrier worn too much?

Has the 'Tongue' worn down or broken off,  which will allow rounds to jump UNDER the carrier when trying to feed

another into the chamber.

There are things that can go bad on the Marlin carrier that can determine the right method of getting it fixed, assuming

something is wrong.

It will feed the first round, but the carrier gets stuck on the second round and it locks up.  Have to either push the second round back in to be able to lever the action and then I have to do that till it is empty, or I can take the magazine cap off and empty it that way.

Widder,

I  have had this rifle for 25 years.  This is the first time it has given a problem. It will feed the first round, but the carrier gets stuck on the second round and it locks up.  Have to either push the second round back in to be able to lever the action and then I have to do that till it is empty, or I can take the magazine cap off and empty it that way.

Your existing carrier can be repaired.  Gunner Gatlin can fix you up.

Bubba,

Thanks for the information.

As you probably already know, Jackrabbit Joe probably has a carrier already set right for good timing.  When the carrier ramp

starts to wear, even just a few .000's, it creates SLOW timing, which causes that jamming problem.

Another good fix is sending it to Gunner Gatlin, as mentioned above.

I got just one more question and a test for you to do, which is an EASY test.

Question:  Have you started using ammo that is a bit shorter than previous ammo?

TEST:  Measure a few pieces of your current ammo, and then load up a few pieces that is a tad longer, maybe  .010 or thereabouts.

I'm curious as to your results.   My guess is that your timing is too slow for the OAL of your ammo and testing your ammo

loaded out a little longer might help.

BUT..... even if it helps your situation, you still should consider getting your timing ramp repaired correctly.

My Marlin is a 16 " 1970's pre safety.

And it only says 44 Magnum on the barrel.

It never could run 44 special.

Runs Magnums like butter  !

My 1982 made .44 will feed Special and Magnum with no issues.

After following Widder's tips, it now feeds both case lengths like butter with semi-wadcutter bullets.

Thanks Lumpy.     But reading your post, and other Wire Pards information over the years, has lead me to believe

that a few of Y'all already have a good knowledge of the Marlins.

Although he don't visit the Wire, I was glad that SLATER  (Slater's In-House-Guns) was eager to learn about the Marlin and how to set them up

to be more competitive and reliable.   We live in the same county here in E.TN and we're able to talk and visit a lot.....plus we Cowboy shoot

at the same clubs.   He's young and hopefully will be around a while to help folks with gun issues and set up more 'Widdermatic's.
