I recently purchased a pair(replicas) of Dance Bros percussion revolvers, & was surprised to discover they have consecutive serial numbers ..

Is this rare as hens teeth or what?

I don't know about Pietta's but back in about 2006 when I ordered my Colt SAA's from the Custom Shop it was about $80 per gun extra for consecutive serial numbers.

Can't speak to your particular revolvers, but consecutive numbered guns pop up more frequently than you might expect. Some people love 'em, many folks don't seem to care (unless we are talking about truly rare firearms). The consensus seems to be that most people don't think there is an increased value in consecutive numbered guns, but there are a few that would pay a premium for consecutive numbers

I would think serials with sentimental dates or times would be more popular.

Or maybe you just like having a giggle when both your guns serials have “69”.

I have a few sets Ubertis that are consecutive.  Most of the importers will pull consecutives for you if a pair are ordered together and they have it.  When they first get orders from Italy, they are often a number of them so you are more likely to get a pair that way when inventory is high.  At one time when I was stocking the shelves for Cimarron, we would put rubber bands around consecutive sets so they would stay together.

I knew a guy who ordered an Evil Roy pistol and then a year or so later another from somewhere else, and it was consecutive.  And I've heard of another person that pretty much the same thing happened to.  Now that is a coincidence!  :)

I waited months a year for a pair of  .45 Evil Roys .

Consecutive numbers don't matter to some, but that's  what I wanted, so the wait was worth it for me.

Of course, YMMV

Back in 2002, I wanted a 7 1/2 inch USFA Pre War SAA. I had the LGS order one for me.

When it arrived, the owner said that they had ordered two so the store could have one to sell.

Well, they were consecutive SN's so now I have two USFA's!

I recall reading about consecutive numbers a while back and was surprised they didn't necessarily get built next to each other on a  product line.

Except for number 1 and that last gun made of a particular model, all guns have 2 consecutive numbers to their own.   FINDING at random a consecutive pair would be remarkably rare.  Ordering a consecutive pair is a clever gimmick by the gun makers to squeeze a few extra bucks out of the purchase price that is really not justified.

About the only way I think consecutive numbers truly matter is if you bought a pair of highly customized ones and asked to have consecutive numbers for "reasons."

For example, if I bought a pair of custom Colts that were identical in every way in their customizations, except that one was blued and the other nickeled, (Or lets go crazy, one is gold and the other is silver) having consecutive number would be "neat."

I think that from most companies there is no extra charge for consecutive s/n.  Cimarron did not charge extra.

I don't understand the consecutive serial # desire.  There is no guarantee that two consecutively numbered frames were built up by the same person or even on the same day.  Unless a particular firearm is selling like hotcakes, any given model # is usually built in batches.

i guess i see the desire for consecutive numbers , but ive always considered that important in collector version like the matched L&R sets marked to SASS , my NMVs dont have either L&R or consecutive - but they look alike ....i think thats good enough for tools of our trade - which is how i view all my cowboy guns , not that i care for them less nor neglect - i just "use" them , they are really not a collection - even tho these days there are enough to be a collection ,

I have six sets of cowboy guns, 1 Colt, 3 USFA Rodeos and 2 Rugers all consecutive serial numbers. Odd numbers in the right hand, even in the left. KISS

The SASS Vaqueros came in a set of two that were sequential with "SASS" as part of the serial number.

Dog years ago Peter bought Colt .45s sold by SASS.  The S#s are his SASS number, forward & backward.

I remember one time years ago .

I was in a gun shop and they had a sign that said 32H&R Magnum New Model Rugers for 239.00

The sales guy brought me out one to look at with Nice CCH  Vaquero style frame and white grips.

I said like a smart aleck he'll if you had them in consecutive numbers , I would buy a set of them .

He took the gun back and come back out with two in hand .

He said hay here is a consecutive set of guns same price !

So I bought them lol .

It took me about 10 years to find a Marlin 94 in 32 H&R Mag , But eventually I did .

They are a Sweet little setup too.

I have a pair of Ruger Old Armies I bought new from a guy on the Internet that have consecutive serial numbers. He did not charge a premium for them. I bought a pair of consecutively numbered Ruger Vaquero's from a local gun shop and they required a premium to get consecutive numbers. Neither set shoots any better than non-consecutively numbered guns.

I have a set.  Lasiter did the short stroke action job, part of the frame was bead blasted and several parts were jeweled.  Factory plastic grips were replaced with buffalo horn and pearl grips.  Then I used them in matches for the past 2 years.  They aren't pristine safe queens but I like them.  Shoot good too.

you have done right by them , they were meant to be shot and to heck with the resale as most of us dont sell our guns that we shoot - we sell the ones we neglect and decide someone should be shooting ,

in his case [a special one as i knew him all too well , he saw them as an investment/money making deal , when that didnt happen quickly he found another shiny object , held them till he found a buyer i guess ,

if he had sold them to me id be shooting them today and someone else after im gone would be shooting them in the future , thats how i roll unless i bought a collector piece that would accrue in value - i seldom do that , ive got a few but they are of particular interest to me ...not really an investment as an indulgance that will be an investment mostly ,

From a Gunplumbers standpoint, there is no real advantage to consecutive number guns.  The way they are built at the manufacturers, they may not go down the same line, on the same day, the same week or even in the same month.  They are built in runs and may well go down the different "lines."  Consecutive's are neat and I usually order them that way but just for funzies.  There is no mechanical advantage.  Just a fun thing.
