Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted June 27 Posted June 27 (edited) Our family gun shop is located in a small town about 50 miles from Las Vegas. Within that small town there are around five actual brick and mortar gun shops - four of them are decently located in high traffic areas on main roads... And then there is ours; well off the beaten path built on the back portion of my Mom's residence property. No one finds us "by accident". Had a 94 year old gentleman come to our shop yesterday to consign some firearms with us. No big deal - we get a fair number of consignments. But this gentleman was consigning his life long collection with us - including a fairly large collection of new in box unfired Colts. He had never been to our shop before - didn't live in Pahrump. We asked him, "Why us? Why not a shop in Las Vegas or one of the other shops he had to pass to come to us?" He responded that he was 94 years old and wanted to ensure he was treated fairly and if he happened to pass before his collection was liquidated - he wanted to know his wife would not be cheated. He had asked around and apparently our name kept coming up as a good choice. So a man we had never met - traveled an hour to a little shop in nowhere Nevada to entrust us with well over $20,000 of firearms in the first batch - simply because of we are known for doing people right. It is nice to have a good reputation. Edited June 27 by Creeker, SASS #43022 25 6 Quote
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted June 27 Posted June 27 JEDI Creeker, good post. and you are correct about reputations. Congratulations on getting these firearms. P.S. - let me know if you get any High Standard .22 pistols or S&W model 41. I might be able to afford an honestly priced new toy. ..........Widder 1 1 Quote

We operate primarily off a consignment model - so instead of buying their items and low balling them to increase our profits; we take a percentage (10%) and do better when they do better. We research their items together and try to settle on prices that will make the product attractive to buyers but give the consignor a fair return. We also take a great deal of pride in how we present and merchandise the firearms - too many shops forget that. And because of the consignment model; we get a lot of interesting and less common items because we don't have to concern ourselves on "tying up" our money on a slower turning oddball item. 1 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Sounds like you're good people. Give good value at a fair and honest profit. Not a dig at you, but every time I hear "reputation," this scene pops into my head: Two days ago my wife and I were going somewhere and on the radio news someone mentioned reputation. We both started quoting, "What is reputation..."at the same time. 2 Quote

Would never take that as a dig. Good or bad - a person who delivers on what they say is someone you can trust. Good or bad - a person who doesn't can't be trusted. My reputation is solid. 1 1 Quote

Take a look at the website - picture is a bit clearer. emmaleesguns.com We ship all over the US for the cost of actual shipping (we transport the items to the local shipping hub and then contact the buyer so that they pay actual cost - we don't expect to profit from shipping). Expect about $20 for packing materials. 1 1 Quote
Doc Shapiro Posted June 28 Posted June 28 @Creeker, SASS #43022 I would add that attitude and integrity inform the reputation. Well done! 1 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I worked in a number of gun shops over the years. Only one wasn't to my liking nor to my standards and I quit. It closed within a few months...after twenty-two years in business. The man who had owned it died and his wife hired her relatives to run it. Those guys were selling guns without any paperwork, no checks of any kind, buying guns from anyone who came in without seeing if they were legal or even functional in some cases, and a lot of cash only deals. ATF and the state of California shut them down and one of the kids did time for it. Not sure what happened to the other two. The Flintlock at Hobby City in Anaheim CA and Brown's Sporting Goods in Pekin, IL were the two best. Quote
