This fan was saying some things about Marte’s dead mom was removed and banned indefinitely

What do you think? While I don’t condone what the fan was saying I think it’s a little excessive.

Other fans as well as the players should not have to listen to such extreme rudeness.  Lifetime bans should be imposed not only on this jerk but on those who use continuously use foul language and/or drink themselves into a stupor.  I would like to take kids and grandkids to a ball park without having them listen to such trash.  Want to curse and get drunk?  Do it at home while watching a game on TV.  Manners are important when in public.

Buying a ticket to see a sporting event gets you in the door. It does NOT give someone carte blanche to be an a$$. Don’t like a players performance? Comes with the territory. If you have something to say that you wouldn’t tell your mom at family dinner, keep it to yourself! Don’t understand the mentality of some people!

Wow.  Yes, the fan went too far.  Heckling the players is a time honored tradition, but very personal verbal attacks are too far. Did the fan know his mom died 8 years ago or was he just throwing out some standard mom jokes and jabs to heckle the guy?

However, a lifetime ban is a bit much.  Kick him out of that game if he is causing a scene., sure.  But if we start giving lifetime bans because a fan was heckling a player, there are going to be a lot of people that will no longer be able to go to games.  If you are a professional sports player, you need to grow some thicker skin.  If the players are distracted by the heckling, then the heckling did its job, right?

I agree, I don’t know why he wasn’t removed earlier. I’m sure fans around him didn’t like what he was saying and they could have at least  got security to remove him if his language was offensive. I do think a lifetime ban is too severe, at least give the guy a chance to apologize publicly or to the player personally.
People are out of control at these sporting events, I’ve witnessed it myself. 😡

The link I provided was just the story. I didn’t expect a video but I’m sure if you google it you’ll find one.

I found this…….

Marte was seen in tears on the field after the spectator yelled a derogatory comment about Marte's late mother during a seventh-inning at-bat in Arizona's 4-1 win over Chicago.

According to a White Sox spokesperson, the security staff at the ballpark relayed that the 22-year-old fan was “very apologetic and remorseful after the fact, and admitted to being very inappropriate and stupid with his comments.” Another person confirmed to the AP that Major League Baseball had banned the fan from all big league stadiums. That person spoke on condition of anonymity because the punishment wasn't announced by the league.

As said above,  booing and heckling players is a time honored part of the game.   "HEY, RALF!!! My 6 year old has a better swing!"  "Clyde, a spavined snail has more hustle on the bases than you!"

But don't go after the player's family.

I'm not sure what I think of a lifetime ban for that jerk.  The rest of the season?  Sure.  Maybe even next season.  I didn't hear it. I have no idea about his actions before that incident, so maybe a lifetime ban is warranted.

My gut says that he was being an idjit in the wrong place at the wrong time and is being used as an example to encourage the others.

He apologized, so I think they should give him a break. A lifetime ban is ridiculous for one stupid incident! MLB needs to chill out!

Banned indefinitely is not a lifetime ban. Indefinitely indicates that he could be re-instated.

That said, I don't know what the "fan" said but it really shouldn't matter. In general, MLB hasn't been in with the 'woke' group. Saying "Your mother wears combat boots" is a lot different that using a line out of the Exorcist.

I don't have a problem with the guy getting banned indefinitely or even lifetime. So-called "fans" have gotten out of control and if he has to be the example, so be it.

Calling this joker a fan is total disrespect of what a fan is. Fans love and respect the game, fans enjoy the competition and the athleticism. That j@ckoff was not a fan. Just a loud mouth who was likely drunk.

Some of these guys sit in the stands and go too far with the comments or insults. They feel they are safe from a player coming after them and are  just waiting for the opportunity for a payout. If this guy made some specific comment knowingly making fun of the players dead mother, I'm good with a lifetime ban. I remember when a couple of punks were yelling comments about Tony Larusa's wife from the safety of the stands. He went over there and there's no doubt in my mind that he could have beaten them to a pulp if he wanted to. But they're hiding in the stands ready for a lawsuit.

MLB has not been in the “woke” group? What about changing the Indians name which was pushed by MLB. They weren’t going to give Cleveland the All Star Game without Chief Wahoo being nixed. How about when they changed the AllStar game in Atlanta because of something to do with voting rights that were too strict ? MLB is as woke as they come. They’re just as bad as the NFL and NBA.

I can see banning this guy from CHICAGO for the rest of the year but not from all of MLB stadiums. Remember he’s 22 yrs old and apologized and yes he was drunk as a skunk.

This joker should be banned as a warning to other idiots whose goal is to go to games, get drunk and behave like idiots. They are self-centered punks who make life miserable for fans around them.

How?

That's the first thought that comes to my mind. How?

Are they going to put his picture and his name in every ticket office - DON'T SELL THIS MAN A TICKET! HE HAS BEEN BANNED FROM BASEBALL PARKS!!

They're going to have his picture by the ticket takers - EVEN IF HE HAS A TICKET, DO NOT LET THIS MAN IN! HE HAS BEEN BANNED FROM BASEBALL PARKS!!!

Realistically, all they could do is throw him out of that game.

That's why I said I wasn't sure how I feel about it.

I think baseball is getting tired of the antics of some of the people who attend games so they can exhibit Animal House behavior in relative anonymity.   So when this guy acted the major idjit,  MLB came down on him hard "pour encourager les autres"

I know he's in Chicago, but...if he was in Florida, they could issue a trespass warning. Violate the trespass warning and it's Go To Jail time....although that probably wouldn't mean much these days. He'd be out within the hour most likely.

There are probably 6 to 10 such obnoxious attendees at any major league game.  The loss of income by banning them would never be felt by MLB.  Their absence would likely be offset by folks like me who don't want to hear their crap.  MLB might come out ahead.

Today... bad behavior, nasty language.

Tomorrow... throws his beer cup on the field or directly at a player.   Starts a fight with another spectator

that supports the opposing team.

Next week... who knows.

I say... Nip it in the Bud.... NOW!

Apparently No one around him complained about what he was saying about Marte’s mom, I believe Marte himself heard the guy and was visibly upset. I’m not sticking up for his behavior but he wasn’t causing a big problem with the fans around him, they may have all been doing the same or who knows maybe encouraging him. These are Chicago fans and Marte is an Arizona Diamondback. No excuse, it was obviously disgusting enough to upset Marte. I still think an indefinite ban is a little much, maybe from the White Sox games for the year,  but that’s up to them.  Anyway you look at it I agree the dude is a real jerk. 🙄

Does anyone know if this was the first or tenth offense?

Maybe the guy is a chronic harasser.  Maybe he's been warned about his behavior before.

As Barney Fife would classify him.....maybe he's a true skitsophyeniac or the bathtub murderer.

That kind of behavior has no place in sports. NO ONE should do anything that could potentially effect the outcome of a game if they are not a player or part of a team.

I found this, his name is Chad Wilson, google him and quite a few reports come up. Here's one:

Glad they banned him and hope they weed out more like him.

Sports fans and rioters/protesters seem to think they can run their mouths and actions with impunity.
It used to be, a guy running his mouth like that had his teeth introduced to the back side of his neck.

I miss the days of civility, and also miss the days of water canons and good old-fashioned beat-downs for inappropriate behavior.
Banned for life?
Actions have consequences.

Good Riddance.

Maybe some people will learn some manners from this incident.

“A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot.”

― Robert A. Heinlein

That article does not identify what he initially said. It just says that he said "I just said hi to his mom." as they were about to eject him from the game after he had made the offensive comment. And the look on his face, his attitude? Yeah. Lifetime ban is fine.

At the last couple of Padres games that I attended the only thing that I found offensive were the people vaping in the seats around us. The ushers didn’t seem to care. If smoking is banned why not vaping? I don’t want to breathe the second hand vape either.
