Howdy Pards,

The Magnificent Seven of Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl are now taking nominations for Classic Cowboy of the Year and Classic Cowgirl of the Year. Who do you know that exemplifies the Classic Category. I don't want just, "They dress great and help out everybody". Heck fire, that describes all of us in the category. Who among us lives, eats and breathes the Classic tradition. We're looking for dedicated Classics who shoot Classic exclusively and not category shoppers. We want to know what that Cowboy/girl does to promote SASS and Cowboy Action Shooting and most important, the Classic Category itself. This is an honor among Classic shooters since 2010 and has honored 29 of our cowboys/girls since then. They will be honored at a special gathering of Classics at Land Run 2025. Please submit your nominations here on the wire, PM or email a member of the Magnificent Seven of Classics or talk to them personally at your event. Let us know why this Cowboy or Cowgirl best represents our category. Past recipients and members of the current Mag7 are not eligible for nomination. Current Mag7 members are Dutch Coroner, Cowtown Scout, GW Ryder, Hot Tamale, Ruby Red Ryder, Sixgun Seamus and Pony Soldier. I will list past recipients in a following post.

Ok folks as SS requested in the first post please give us more than a name AND you are not voting you are nominating for consideration by the M7. We need information about the Cowboy or Cowgirl you are nominating and why they should be selected for this award/recognition/honor.

I’ll second the nomination of Cleve!! He has all of the usual qualities expected of a Classic Cowboy in SPADES!!

He is also an actual national treasure! He wouldn’t make it a big deal, but I will! He and two other shooters with whom he is often found are also military veterans, instructors for our military, and actual documented heroes about whom books and movies have been written and filmed!!

He helps to run the SASS club at Boaz, KY, assisting in running the matches there.  He’s also there any time someone needs first aid during an event and knows his way around in that area.

He’s also got a great beard!!

I would like to nominate Loco Leadslinger.  He is a great Classic to shoot with and Posse with. Always willing to help out and give advice. Last year he was made a Regulator,  multi time Ohio State, North East Regional champion. Top three at EOT several times. Also helps at his local club. He has also won Ohio State Working Cowboy costume award several times. He takes being a Classic Cowboy to heart.

Are we talking about Greene County Cowboys Loco? If we are - he’s a real one! I can vouch that he does a good job of getting kids hyped up to follow the cowboy way! Looking forward to the future Cowboys and Cowgirls who join us just because of him!

I personally can vouch for Landon! Thanks for making room for me at the dinner table, giving me advice as a newbie and inviting me out to join you!

I don’t know if foreign shooters are eligible. But I’d like to nominate Marlboro Man out of Australia. Great ambassador for the sport there. He has attended EOT and ran some great posses. A great sportsman and a true blue classic cowboy.

I agree with Blackwater and Preacherman, Cleve would be a great candidate. Along with everything Blackwater said he has been a Posse Marshall at many matches including the Tennessee State Championship this year. This year he was also the Tennessee State Champion Classic Cowboy and the First Place Classic Cowboy at our match.

I also agree with everything stated regarding Cleve.  When I think of Classic Cowboy I immediately think of Cleve.  He is always working when competing, always willing to lend a hand, and always a delight to ride the trail with.  I experienced heat related event at a state match in the Spring of 2024 and Cleve came running to the rescue before the medical team arrived to offer assistance.  He is a veteran and war hero and has the most bad!@#$ beard in town!  I VOTE CLEVE :D!

I concur with all comments regarding Cleve!!  He is an awesome Classic Cowboy, but more importantly he is a super awesome man!  He not only dresses the part of Classic Cowboy he IS a Classic Cowboy!!

Cleve works hard at every match and never complains.  Shooters love being on his posse, especially when he is the Posse Marshal.

Cleve’s knowledge of medical care came to my rescue shortly after I began shooting. I fell due to a wet/slick wooden floor and twisted my leg and back. Cleve came to the rescue and helped tremendously.

A lot more can be and probably should be said, but this enough to let everyone know Cleve is a great Classic Cowboy!!

Brace yourself. Here comes a Cleve story.

At Black Gold a couple years ago I had gotten it in my head that I needed to try an '87.

I was talking to Cleve about it and we ended up on a stage trying one out. He was full of tips and in the end we decided it wasn't for me at that time.

This wasn't the only time Cleve has taken out time to help me. It's a pattern.

I don't know if Cleve lives and breathes Classic Cowboy but the beard is real so that might give you some clue.

I can’t think of a more deserving cowboy than Cleve! Great competitor and always willing to jump in and lend a hand in every situation.

 Cool beard too!

Very well put Blackwater, not sure Cleve will like the attention but I also nominate Cleve for CC of the year. He is a dedicated SASS shooter, CC and all around great cowboy. I would proudly ride with him any day.

I would cast my vote for Cleve also. Fine example of a classic cowboy.

I would like to nominate Dantankerous. He's a great example of a Classic Cowboy. He's always ready to help a pard out and his costuming is top notch. He makes shooting fun.

This year as we remember and celebrate the life of Major Artillery I think we should consider his traveling pard and friend/side kick as Classic Cowboy of the year. Dantankerous.

Dantankerous in the middle.

Lots of great nominations coming. Remember,  give us as much info as possible about how this cowboy/girl promotes Cowboy Action Shooting and especially the Classic category.

I don't shoot Classic Cowboy, but I've stayed at a Holiday Inn before. I'm throwing my hat in with Cleve. He may not have any of those purty pink onesie pajamas like Sixgun Seamus, but that's the only thing he's lacking! Cleve embodies what you think about when you think "Classic Cowboy".

I know he won’t like the attention but I’d like to nominate Jax-T for consideration.  Jax was the one who got me to switch to Classic Cowboy several years ago and has been a heck of a friend both on and off the range. I’ve been on several posses with him and I’ve watched him help wherever there is a need. Everything from PM, TO, counter, brass picker.  I’ve watched him coach the young buckaroos and buckarettes when they come up to the stage and every single one of them walks away with the biggest smile on their face regardless of how many targets they hit or missed. My rifle broke on the last day at Land Run last year and Jax gave me his ammo and his rifle and said “you’re having too good of a match to not finish”.  Jax is the kind of person who has never met a stranger and welcomes everyone he meets with a handshake and a smile (though you may not see it behind that mustache).
