Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 According to this article from the Business Insider the Ukraine Army now arms squads with shotguns to down drones controlled with fiber optics. It's the most cost-effective means of downing these drones.
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 I guess they’d need something like my old Original Marlin Goose Gun! The barrel is so long that I have to put a hole in the shelf of my gun safe to stand it up in there! 😜🤣
Eyesa Horg Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 Bettin' the bird hunters make good anti drone personnel.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 I'm thinking 00 buck would be pretty effective on a drone out to about 100 yards.
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 Would be interested to know what kind of ammo they use for that. Would have to balance force of impact with getting as much into the sky as possible. Magnum loads for sure, maybe even steel shot. There are various "specialty" shotgun loads, I wonder if they are using some sort of bolo shot or something that may have a change of snagging and cutting the fiber line if the main shot misses the drone itself.
Rip Snorter Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 Purportedly, WWI the '97 was used to deflect grenades. Nothing new under the sun!
Captain Bill Burt Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 I imagine my Browning A5 in 12 gauge would do a reasonable job.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 The Russkis have been doing that for a while now. With mixed resultd.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted June 17, 2025 Author Posted June 17, 2025 Here is another article from Forbes. It mentions using buckshot. Ukrainians are buying inexpensive Turkish Escort BTS12 shotguns. Its bullpup design does not look ideal for wingshooting. They are choosing soldiers with hunting experience as their first choice for shotgun/drone duty.
watab kid Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 my understanding thats not legal , but then neither is crossing the boarder without following protocals so , maybe not a real big deal ..........

Dapper Dave Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 Or rather, the winner gets to write the "rules" afterwards.

Oak Ridge Regulator Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 My Benelli SBE 2 with a turkey choke will knock a duck out of the sky with steel shot at 70+ yards and I’m sure just one steel pellet is going to ruin a drones day. I wouldn’t be surprised if they could drop drones at that range and longer with 3.5” mags. An old H&R 10 gauge would probably work even better and a LOT cheaper
Dapper Dave Posted June 18, 2025 Posted June 18, 2025 "Vitali, look, ten drones, one shot! American punt gun is GOOD!"
Sedalia Dave Posted June 18, 2025 Posted June 18, 2025 US soldiers get smart rifle scopes that shoot enemy drones on their own
