Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted Tuesday at 03:44 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:44 PM My tirade of two days ago, continued on a bit yesterday. The only place for miles around that sells sarsaparilla ran out, a place that is a charitable thrift shop turned out to be closed on Monday, and at 10:am traffic was stalled in every direction. As I left the thrift shop there is a narrow two lane road that goes less than a block to Arizona Route 69. One car as ahead of me turning right (west) like I was,. No east-bound traffic. The west-bound traffic was moderately light, but this woosie jackass in front of me would NOT turn if there was a car coming from the east inside a half mile. Finally he turned right and across to the left hand lane. I followed him and he drifted back to the right lane and I braked, turned over behind him and blew around him a punched it up to 75 mph....in a 50 mph zone. It didn't gain me anything because a mile further the traffic in both my lanes was stopped at a light that is always very slow. I worked over to the shoulder to turn right at that intersection, just as the cop behind me turned on his lights. I crept up the the intersection, turned right and right again onto a very wide dirt street and pulled over. His bull horn told me....called me "sir"....to turn left and across to a drive through place that has been closed for a month or so and to park under the roof of the driveway. I did, pulled to a stop, shut off the engine, opened both front windows and took out my license and CCW card. My hands were on the wheel. He explained "I had you pull over here out of the sun because it's way to hot to be standing out there in the sun." He took the cards and asked why I had shown my CCW card and I told him I didn't want any surprises. He asked if I had any guns in the car and told him "three". and where they were. He gave me back the CCW and asked if he could let him sit in the passenger seat and I unlocked the door. He asked where my registration and insurance cards were and took them out of the glove box....from under a loaded 10 shot 9mm pistol and four fully loaded spare magazines....and got out of the car. He asked my to get out and stand at the rear of my car "just as precaution because of the guns aboard". I did. He walked back to his car to call in this and that and came back. Never took his eyes off me for more than a second and never turned his gun side to me nor held anything in his right hand. He wrote me a ticket, explained all I needed to know, and told me I had no previous tickets in Arizona. I told him the last ticket I got was when I lived in California twenty-seven years ago. He got back in his car and left while I put everything away. I'll go pay the fine ($138.00) in another hour. Am I angry? NO, not really. I'm a bit aggravated at myself for losing control. Honestly, I got off pretty easy and I HAD IT COMING! I let my temper take over....which I very seldom ever do. The officer was very professional and respectful, almost friendly, and managed it while being in the hot sun with a confirmed armed man. I lived in California for almost 40 years and dealt with a lot of LEOs and only met a handful who I could truly respect and even fewer I could have liked. I met many who should have never been allowed to wear a badge, much less a gun, and a few who should have been in jail. All of my experiences with LEOs here.....not as common as they were in California because I don't work nor hang out in gun shops any more..... have been friendly, or at least professional. Not a "badge heavy cop" in the state so far. Damn, I love living in north-central Arizona. Okay. It's almost over and I'm back to being my usual well behaved, pleasant, almost lovable self. 10 Quote

Was 99 44/100% sure that you were no threat, but was still cautious. 1 Quote

Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted Tuesday at 06:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:17 PM I've lived in Arizona for 35 years. I've had a few encounters with LEOs, including a number at the Douglas Az. DOT scalehouse. With one or two exceptions they've all been positive. The one or two were Tucson Cops, (From Somewhere Else I think), who were nervous about my guns. They were still polite and professional. 1 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted Tuesday at 07:14 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:14 PM The only encounter with law enforcement in Arizona that I have had was with the Border Patrol down by Tombstone. They asked a few questions, but didn’t even look at our guns. On the way back through, they just waved us through the checkpoint and sent us on our way. Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted Tuesday at 08:07 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:07 PM That’s the way law abiding citizens act when stopped. Good job!👏 1 Quote

Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM About 10+ years ago I was in OK City for Land Run. Several of us were riding together in a pard’s car going to dinner. Not knowing the area, we passed by the restaurant we were looking for. Upon that realization, our driver slowed and did a safe, but illegal U-turn in the middle of the street, which was seen by an LEO who pulled us over. Our intrepid driver produced both his KS drivers license and CCW permit when asked for license and registration. The LEO looked at the permit and asked, “Do you have any guns in the car?” To which our driver said, “Yes sir, lots of them.” Without missing a beat the LEO said, “As long as you don’t point any of them at me, we’ll get along fine.” He then wrote the traffic ticket and bid us good evening. 4 Quote
Dapper Dave Posted Wednesday at 05:51 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:51 AM Last time I got pulled over, (registration out of date, I forgot during my wife's cancer treatment, oops), it went very smoothly. He walked up to the window while I kept both hands on the wheel, and said, "Sir, before I move my hands I want to inform you that I am armed, holstered pistol right side" He said, "You don't show me yours, I won't show you mine." Note, I did NOT show my Dept ID, I consider "professional courtesy" bogus, as sworn personnel should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one, and it was my fault. But, when he ran my info, he was impressed that my last moving violation had been over 30 years prior, so he just told me to get the registration done ASAP. We went straight home from there and did it on the spot! I honestly don't remember a bad run in with LE in the few places I've had official police contact. 1 Quote
watab kid Posted Wednesday at 06:00 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:00 AM well , ill be honest here - have not been stopped in years and i hope not to be , almost had collisions on three occasions today by folks that wont stay in their own lane , follow too close and think their bike makes them invincible at a red light .........needless to say the suburban has good brakes - a rather large trailer hitch and i dont think running a red light on a bike is a real good idea and even more when meeting that much steel , im seldom in a hurry and i waych all the time - i expect stupid , so i had no problem ...... i would not hand out my CCW to an officer till he asked me to get out of the car - i do put both hands on the wheel in plain sight , i will announce my carry if asked to get out or if asked to do something that alters my hands out of his sight , i dont speed , i dont get angry at other stupid drivers and we havve a lot of them here - minnesota nice doesn't relate to courteous driving , , i dont drive erratically , i do drive a large , heavy truck and ill be less likely to get hurt than them , but i drive defensive as my father taught me .....my wife , not so much , she is type AA and dont get in her way , shes also 10 years younger and closer to invincible than i am these days 1 Quote
